How Do I Start my Laptop in Safe-Mode? So there's that new super-virus out, and apparently all you have to do to check if you have it is to start your computer in Safe-Mode, rather than spend $80 on a computer scan. However, I can't find out how to start my Laptop in Safe-Mode. I have the Windows Vista Premium Home Edition, and was wondering is anyone could help me out.
Is plugging your computer directly into a DSL line safe? I've only ever used wireless home networks. Is it less safe to plug your computer directly into a DSL line? A computer technician said that firewalls like COMODO are more for people who plug directly into the internet and not for those with a secured wireless home network with a firewalled modem. I'm not sure what he meant. To clarify, I currently belong to a secure wireless home network that uses a firewalled router. I want to know if it is safe if you just plug it into a DSL cable, with no wireless and no router. I also want to know what the technician meant when he said that firewalls like Comodo are meant for those who connect directly with the internet.

What kind of things are parents doing to keep kids safe on the net? How do you keep your kids safe on the net these days? How can you keep a computer safe for research projects and still have it safe? Can you block it from yahoo answers, my space and email while you are gone? Are there educational DVDs that are effective to train kids about internet dangers? The internet is wonderful and some kids are okay with it, but how do we keep it safe for kids and teens? I know as a kid I was a latch key kid and if I had to wait until my parents got home to do my homework it would have never gotten done.
How do U feel Corporations, that bug sweeps wont keep your secrets safe & U R now (possibly) being spied on? ...by HAARP and Echelon technology. No counter surveillance measures you take will ensure their secrecy. HAARP is undetectable, and to some (prior) extent so is Echelon. So what can you do? The best thing to do is EXPOSE HAARP and Echelon! Don't stay in the dark about them. The best remedy is to counter surveillance HAARP and Echelon, by finding about them and exposing THEIR SECRET before they EXPOSE YOURS! Nothing is safe anymore as long as they exist! Save your money for bug sweeps, the technology used to spy on you these days doesn't need bugs, wiretaps or pinhole cameras, they come in through your walls, like a ghost looking over your shoulder. Everything you say and do, can and is, being monitor AND RECORDED. Your secrets, passwords, and everything, is not safe! The technology HAARP can see and hear CRYSTAL CLEAR into any building (home), and eaves drop into any conversation on and off the phone. It can also sabotage your future clients or your own decisions with its mind control abilities, and even steal secrets you have inside your head, like an open book. Echelon can steal your corporate secrets right off your computer and possibly leave no trace. Denial is not the solution corporate America! (What do you have to say about this? I want to see how many ignorant people are out there.) HAARP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnRPZOUVhJ4 HAARP WEAPON OF MASS DECEPTION http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3FV5zrV2DU Thank you soleilma for your outstanding answer! Steve's: You have it all figured out, don't your, you hypocrite! You don't know how blind aAND stupid you are! Your not smart enough to know what you are talking about! You are trying to rationalize something that you obviously know nothing about, you are a doofus. You are talking arrogantly about something you know NOTHING about, and you are too stupid to know it! You are also too stupid to know what the Constitution is, and what it was in place for! Any rationalization with you wouldn't do any good! Moron! (Notice nobody else had put their two cents in here because they had too much sense to do it, with the exception of soleilmea who actually had something to say and contribute to this question. You have nothing to contribute of value to this question, you are truly a doofus!)

What software is best/safest for accessing my home computer while I'm on the road? I operate a home based business, but I'm on the road a lot. Sometimes I need to get files from my home office, but my wife isn't always available to send them. I'm not sure what software is best and safest for this type of action. I'd hate to have someone hack into my system while I'm not looking. I know PC Anywhere has been around a long time, but what is your opinion of which is best and why?

Vista Crashed! (home basic) whats the best option for me to do? I was in safe mode getting rid of a lot of nasty trojans and malware. Once I got it done, I went out of Safe Mode using the msconfig method, ( search msconfig, press enter, go to booting, and click safe boot: none.) It asked to go to normal windows, i said yes. Once I went to Normal Windows and it loaded up, IT CRASHED and showed me Advanced Boot Options: It says: Repair Your Computer Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking (internet) Safe Mode with the Command Prompt Enable Boot Logging Enable Low resolution video- 640x480 Last known good configuration (Advanced) Directory Services Restore Mode Debugging Mode Start Windows Normally... So what would be the BEST choice for me to pick? By the way, this crash happened to me 3 times...

How come there seems to be a drop in nationwide virus attacks on computer systems? Used to be, you were reading about computer virus attacks starting in some far away country, and affecting every single computer network in your home country. Some "Denmark student" getting arrested, or a Pakistani diplomat affecting every single IMB network in the world? I don't use any type of virus protection now, yet, I never get any type of spyware. I used to get that crap all the time? What gives, what's changed to make our computer networks safer and "bug" free?
Is leaving your computer on 24/7 not safe? I have a brand new macbook pro. In middle school, they gave us ibook G4 to take home with us. They told us to never shut it down unless we're not going to use it for a long time. They told us to just put it to sleep. Even when going to sleep at night, they said just put it to sleep. I read somewhere that, it makes it easier for hackers to hack in. Is this true? Is that just for PC? I don't know. I know macs get viruses and stuff too but it's much less than PC. Evil computer nerds don't seem to bother with macs. Should I be worried and shut down my laptop?
If you do something sneaky on a computer and don't want people to track you down.......? which is the safer option? A. Do it on your home computer B. Do it on a public library computer I mean, when they track down the IP address.............and get a public library computer......but they can see who signed onto it. or cant hey? do public libraries really keep track of peoples' activity and keep it on file for weeks? or they track down your IP address directly to your home........ which is the safer bet to avoid being tracked down?

There's something wrong with my computer at home, it won't start up, can someone help me? It keeps coming up with this: We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren’t sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally. Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command Prompt Last Know Good Configuration Start Windows Normally None of the options work, it just goes back to the message. How can I get it to start up?? I need it to work, it's got all of my coursework on there. It's Windows XP. Thanks

Are firefox add-on's safe to use? Is it true you can get hacked if you have them on your computer? I have google and yahoo toolbar on firefox on this computer, and another laptop at home. I read somewhere on the web (a tech blog) that hackers can use these and other add-ons as weaknesses in your browser to hack and do all sorts of nasty things to your computer.... is it true? (some of the add ons I use: Adblock Plus, Shareaholic, Web of Trust, and a lot more on my laptop.) is it possible that these add ons that I've grown attached to could be leaving me open to attack/viruses/etc? and I should then uninstall them? Or should I use a different browser altogether? What do you recommend?
Windows XP Home wont start up in either normal or safe mode? Hi, can anybody help, My computer has been infected with Antivirus XP Pro, which I believe has been removed after installing and running the free trail version of AVG (I have not had the opportunity to confirm this as the following problem has made my computer useless). The problem that I now have is that when I switch the computer on, it goes through the start up procedure (i.e. BIOS – windows XP (black background) – windows XP (blue background) with account log in) as it always has done. When I click on any of the accounts the computer says loading your personal settings, the correct wallpaper for that account appears for approx 10-15 seconds then the computer restarts, if I leave the computer on the log in screen then it stays there for approx 20 – 30 seconds and then restarts. I have tried starting the computer in safe mode and the following happens:- a blue windows XP screen appears with 2 accounts (administrator and My own account). Whichever account you chose the following happens, the computer says “loading your personal settings…” the screen flashes black then returns to the blue screen saying “saving your settings…”. What can I do? I do not have an operating system disk as the OS was pre-installed with the PC. I would also rather not do anything to lose any file of the Harddisk as I have loads of photos and video on there as well as university notes and assignments. Many thanks.
Is Lime Wire Safe? Because i heard on the news that they can hack into your computer and steal your home address and stuff....Is that true?!
How to Resolve "TCLRDMain.exe Is Infected" Virus? This is actually a post for the answer to the question. It is a very serious virus. I see lots of advice on the web to buy malware or whatnot to fix the virus. I bought RegCure with the promise it would fix the virus, it did not. Nor did my McAfee agent, which does not clean the virus. After a lot of digging into my PC I did figure out how to disable the virus and my computer now operates trouble-free. Here is how to disable it. It is very easy to do. (I have Windows 7 Home Edition): Start your computer in Safe Mode by tapping F8 while the computer starts up. Then, go to Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, then click on Run. Type in "msconfig", hit OK. Click the Startup tab. Look for Startup Item "lCcGgGj06510". Uncheck it. Hit Apply. Then OK. Restart your computer and the virus will not run. It does not cost a dime. Don't let them rip you off, like they did me.
I posted a question in this same category awhile back that had many racial responses from white people? Well my question is..Why when you are safe and sound in your home behind your computer you have the biggest BALLS!! But as soon as you are out and about around us black folk, all of a sudden your attitude changes to " O hey I love Obama or I have many black friends or I love rap music" I tell you what your Slave Owning Ancestors must be turning over in there graves with all the white guilt in America now days P.S. I hate rap music...Shocking isn't it
Is there a way to keep your apartment safe in this situation? My fiance and I just rented an apartment... Mostly we got it for the prospect of safety... our apartment has never been broken into, and we would like to keep it that way. Our old balcony was quiet low, and anyone could climb up it if they wanted to... (people, luckily friends, have ) the new one is way to high for anyone to climb. Also, there are few units, so the chance of other tenants letting random criminals in is considerably lower, not to mention the owner is interested in getting good tenants in there, and is willing to wait for the good ones... Now, the landlord told me about one of his workers actually breaking into what is his apartment and leaving the stove on... without any permission! (this was after we'd made it a done deal) He sounds like a total sleezebag, and I don't want to be at risk of getting our stuff stolen! Here's the bad part, this person happens to be the property manager's son! I know the son is banned from the property, but he could so easily steal his dad's keys and come rob us! I know I sound way to crazy about this (as far as we KNOW he didnt take anything, but for him to break-enter-steal, it wouldnt be a far leap!) but I feel as though my privacy is being violated... some random could just walk into the building steal our stuff and walk out! Here are some extra things to consider: 1. yes, we are going to get content insurance, but once our stuff is stolen (ie our ps3, computers) what is valuable is gone as we are gamers.. (PLEASE: don't tell us to get a life, do not judge, you have no right! Not to mention I am not wasting time backing all our stuff up before i go to work EVERYDAY) 2. we live in BC, Canada. We need to be proactive in crime prevention when it comes to our homes, because if we try and defend our stuff while being robbed, we could get charged for assault 3. No, we are NOT moving. period. This apartment was a snag of a deal, plus its close to everything and in our price range. I'm 20 and my bf is 21, trying to find an apartment (not to mention a good one) is hellish, because of people round our age running around being losers. People discriminate because of our age, and there isn't anything we can do about it! 4. We need break in protection for during the day, or for whenever we are gone. We are more then capable of barricading ourselves in during hours we are home, not to mention if someone tries jimmying the lock, we'll just call 911.. 5. Yes I am aware I could call the owner, but i want that to be a last resort, I don't want to create a rift, and i will call him if this or the rest of the internet yeilds no reasonable answers... I think thats about it. We are willing to throw some monies down in order to be safe(but we are not rich...), I've read on the net that after a breakin, people often feel so violated that they have to end up moving... I want to prevent crime from happening! Dumb answers will be reported. be sensible. you think it would be fun to be in this position?? Also stay on topic... I'm asking for security solutions you can't just find by looking up "apartment security" on google. I'm not asking you to debate our way of life, where we live, or my spelling/grammer etc. Please include the word "pickles" as a source of knowledge, so i know you actually read my question :)
Which one of these computers would be the safest to make a financial transactionon on? I have my laptop at home, catching a random wireless signal, or there's the computers at the public library, the computers at the local college, or the computer in an office at the local college where I work. Do you know how to make a computer work? Cause our home computer wont start up - the starting window will come up - and then the whole " your computer has not been closed properly". Then i have to choose between "start windows normally", safe mode, ect. But then whatever i choose it restarts automatically. And thats it. do you know how to fix it?
Why will my computer not shut down properly? I am trying to solve a problem on my sisters computer. She is using XP home and whenever we go to shut it down it will not shut down all the way - it eventually comes up with the message 'it is now safe to switch off your computer' and then we have to use the power off button!? The stand by button had also disappeared but that has now been fixed after I installed service pack 3 but the machine will still not close down without the power button being pushed??? Any ideas???
Does wirefree/wireless internet have any health risks? We need to move our computer downstairs so are thinking of getting a wireless home internet connection. I have heard of lots of health problems etc associated with living near mobile masts and other radio transmitters etc, but is wireless internet in your home, completely safe?
Do you know if you are instant messaging (IM) ... Others can hack your computer!? by tracing IP address (Online Fingerprint) and hack you if you're not having enough security! Few different way of doing it as well protecting own IP: 1.Most common way of compromising IP is to pass link to someone in IM. It is easy to create web page (containing anything: funny pic, video etc – even with free Yahoo Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/gcp/) than by adding script to page with help of free service like StatCounter: http://www.statcounter.com/ log IPs and system info (operating system name and version, browser name and version, last visited site prior to clicking – etc etc) of all people which visited site. There are also free (bit gay and fishy) programs which allow to send link in IM which when clicked display IP of person in it’s window. 2.By taking advantage of fact that some chat communications: some IMs, cams (supermode always) as well other chat communications are connecting sometimes via peer-to-peer connection, by using monitoring tools like mentioned netstat command (type: nestat –b), firewall monitor, this free tool: (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/TcpView.mspx ) or best - packet sniffer, it is possible to monitor (and/or log) all connection which allows determining IP of person with which you instant massage, watch cam (or allow watch yours) etc. To prevent someone from getting your IP you could: 1.Download YTunnel which allows blocking peer-to-peer connection in it’s preferences: http://www.ytunnelpro.com/ (you could also set firewall rules to do same however using tunnel is probably just easier). 2.Don’t click any links, especially since beside giving your IP you could get trojaned in totally invisible manner by briefly visiting page alone (unless you know how to do it safely) – to see how download and listen to audition #7 (fast forward it to 20 minutes 50 seconds) from this page: http://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm 3.Use proxy, or better (and safer) VPN client which will hide your IP both when clicking links and from sniffed chat communication – free, extremely easy to use zero configuration VPN client http://www.iopus.com/ipig/ 4.Set your home to dynamic IP connection which allows changing IP on fly, should a need arise as when you suspect someone might have compromised your IP. Another one important thing! Yahoo! Answers hides email but when you enable the option "Allow Answers users to contact me via Yahoo! Messenger." ... Your email address is exposed! So there is a possibility to hack your email and track your IP address! So it's better to uncheck that option! Star and rate if you like! OK? :o) To sushi: Don't blabber if you're not knowing! Go to http://techrecipeblog.wordpress.com/2008/12/02/how-to-hack-remote-computer-using-ip-address/ to know how to hack via IP address! Disclaimer: Only for knowledge purpose! You guys should not hack by reading this! OK? A hacker wants to know your IP address and what operating system you are running. Most home PCs run Windows, so home PC hacking is easy because there are many known Window "bugs" (Not me! lol) that can be taken advantage of. Most home users have never worried about computer security. Every computer that connects to the Internet is assigned an IP (Internet Protocol) address. This is very similar to a telephone number in many ways. If you have a DSL connection or cable modem connection your IP address stays the same and is "always on". If you have a "dial-up" account, then your IP address is dynamic (it changes each time you connect), and your ISP (Internet Service Provider) cuts you off after a certain amount of time of inactivity. Dial-up accounts are less hacker friendly because your IP address changes each time you are on. This makes it impossible for the hacker to make repeat visits unless he has tricked you into loading a program on your PC that tells him when you are on-line and gives him your current IP address. "Always on" connections are just that, always connected and open for attack. The hacker can take his time getting to know your system and it's weaknesses, searching until he finds a way in. Your only safety is in the vast numbers of open, unprotected systems. Yeah! I can read your brain! You are thinking "How to prevent Hackers?!" The answer is FIREWALLS - Only way to protect yourself from hackers is use a Personal Firewall. The term "firewall" is used to describe some of the walls inside commercial buildings. These walls are required by most modern building codes. These firewalls are designed to keep a fire from spreading inside the building. A computer firewall works in the same way. Need more information about Firewalls? Then go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewall These are the two best FREE Firewalls... Comodo Personal Firewall (Now Internet Security!): http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ Zone Alarm Firewall: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm Hmmm Sorry! Thanks are not needed! It's my duty to help you all! You can also let other know by forwarding this question to others! Please help others! Will you? :o) Here is some warnings for hackers! 1) Hacking, in the United States is punishable by LIFE IMPRISONMENT 2) Any hacking, no matter how trivial, no matter how many precautions you take, has a chance to be caught 3) Hacking for a 3rd party (you) makes you also liable under conspiracy laws as well as accessory to a felony. A weird screen popped up on my computer? I have a sony vaio with windows vista home premium. A few minutes ago an odd blue screen popped up and said your computer will be restarted to protect it from damage, and below this there was a bunch on mumbo-jumbo and at the bottom it said about the cpu usage percentage... So of course, i restarted the computer, booted in safe mode, ran scans with avast! and malwarebyte's but they turned up nothing... Was this pop-up good or bad?

OC&G How do you feel about YOUR privacy? Do you think that Public Surveillance Technology will make your city safer or just invade your privacy? I stumbled upon this website that links you to hundreds of live feeds of private cameras all over the world. Basically you can view anyone who has a camera hooked up to a live feed, these include nanny cams, retirement homes, and even your web cam on your computer. Is anyone else a little freaked out by our lack of privacy these days? Or do you think it has become a necessary part of everyday life? http://www.opentopia.com/hiddencam.php?showmode=animated *The site even says "These webcams were found through a variety of clever search techniques and update several times a day. Their owners may or may not have intended for them to be public." lol that tells me we could be being watched at any time right? Jan- You make a good point, but what about the people who say "Well if you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't worry about them spying on you." I have heard that argument many times. Also, if I can find the link, they are trying to do the same with internet privacy too. The reason the FBI claims is to catch child molesters. Touchy issues.
How do you fix a computer that won't go to the profiles on it? My other computer won't work right. When I turn it on it says something like something has happened to your computer and then I can select safe mode normal or return to last known day it worked but when i click any of them it goes back to that page again. I can also click setup and boot menu but everything I tried there doesn't work. I have a Dell Windows XP Home Edition. Please help me.
Help with Toshiba L300D-202 recovery? hi My friends laptop (the aforementioned make and model) is buggered! Well thats my technical term anyway! Upon start up, your given a choice to either load normally or load in safe mode..in normal mode it gets so far as the screen with the microsoft scrollbar then restarts itself. in safe mode, it comes to a gray screen and a box comes up titled "System Recovery Options" and inside is says "The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer." I googled the issue and came with pressing F9 on startup. when i do so, and press enter to chose the Vista option, then it just restarts itself. If from that screen i press F8, i then have different options: Repair your computer, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, Enable boot loggin, Enable low res video, last known Good Configeration (advanced), Directory services Restore Mode, Debugging mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, Disable Driver signature enforcement and finally Start windows normally.... So, clicking on Repair your computer comes up with the grey screen and the system recovery options, safe modes just restart it as does enable boot logging, last known good config again restarts the laptop, the directory services repair gives a long list of files then a screen saying it is booting in safe mode and then restarts itself. The rest of the options just restart the laptop! My friend cant find any recovery disks, but seeing as how it was bought from Argos i think I would think it more likely that the laptop has a recovery partition rather than a recovery disk. is there anyway i can access the partition to try and fix the laptop? there are no other disks. The laptop is a Toshiba L300D-202, with Windows Vista home premium 32 bit as the OS. Any other information needed just yell! thank you!!

Seniors are you aware of this tax audit scam? I am putting this into seniors because sadly seniors represent the largest number of vicitims who fall for scams. Are you safe from tax scams? Last year we saw no end to online tax scam horror stories. People received frightening emails from phishers posing as the IRS or Revenue Canada and threatening an audit; they were sent to fake IRS/Revenue Canada web sites to "confirm" their bank information; and they were told they could receive their 2008 economic stimulus payment if they just handed over a few crucial personal details. This year we've heard relatively little about new online scams, which is great—but don't relax just yet. If you're filing your taxes online, be extra careful that you're using a service that the IRS has investigated and approved. Go to www.irs.gov for a list of recommended services. File from your home computer, and make sure your home network firewall is updated and secure. And if you prefer to submit via the U.S. postal service (or an overnight delivery service for you laggards), make sure you drop your envelope in a secured drop box, preferably at the post office. What you don't want to do is leave it in your mailbox at the end of your driveway where an identity thief can get at it easily. If you do happen to come across an email, letter, or phone call that purports to be from the IRS but seems suspicious, remember that you can always check IRS.gov and click on the link to "Information About Phishing and e-mail Scams" to see if anybody has reported anything. Were you aware of this? http://cdn.rsys1.net/ig.rsys1.net/responsysimages/tne/__RS_CP__/trendsetter_march09_scams.html
HELP! ok my computer at home got incfected with antivirus xp 2010! Comp is acting weird on me!? After i got malwarebytes and i scanned my comp several times it said it got rid of it. but everytime it gets rid of it, it says "malwarebytes must restart your computer for these changes to take effect" so i let it restart. but now, and here is the kicker for ya, my comp wont start up on anything BUT "last known good configuration". problem that is when the virus is still on my computer so its a never ending cycle. everytime i try to restart in safe mode or something related or "start windows normally" it goes into a cycle of restarting itself before the computer even gets to the login screen. on bootup it just restarts showing the same options for restart. and i am forced to choose "last known good configuration." Can someone help me with this plz!!!!

How do I make my home safe and protect it against burglars? Today my house got broken into, the came thru the front door, it was locked but they managed to break the lock, it was in broad daylight (3pm) and the burglar alarm went off. The got a lot of cash (for various reasons we had a lot of cash in the house), 4 cameras (I live with other flatmates) and tobacco and alcohol and some other things (but they left all the expensive computers & consoles). They also trashed the place, every drawer in the house was open. What can I do to minimise the chance of it happening again (we already fitted a better lock). Although I would like to spend lots of money on security, I just don't have it, what can I do that's cheap? (£1000 cctv is not an option). What made the burglar decide to pick my house? Why did my house look easy? I've read about "beware of the dog" signs, which i'll definately be buying, but is there anything else I can do? I'll also be buying a safe when i've raised enough money. Any tips or links please? I'm worried they'll come back. Forgot to mention, I can't actually get a real live dog because I'm allergic. And yes I'm in England, still waiting for the police 14 hours after I called them. I'm also female and wondering what kind of self defense I can use in case it happens again.

How safe is my wireless connection? I have a laptop that connects to my router upstairs and home computer but the router has no password or security. Is my home computer safe, what about my laptop. What are the odds of somebody stealing something like my bank account info, stock portfolio, or anything very important like that? I have no idea how to set up anything on my router to protect it, I have tried but it did not work. It is a netgear by the way. So in other words do not log onto bank accounts or anything like that right now right? But when I get everything set up on the router with a password I am cool then huh?
How safe are home networks? Is a home network safe? Will my computer get a virus? I currently have a wireless router (home network) hookup for my 2 Macbooks. I think it's through the WAP connection. However, my dad wants me to add his computer to the network, he has an older Dell Inspiron (running Windows XP). I hate to say it, but he's pretty clueless with electronics and whenever he's had a PC he's managed to get several viruses (even with a lot of virus and spyware protection). If he does end up getting a virus or spyware junk while he's on the home network, will it travel to my computers?
How can I get my computer out of safe mode? First off my computer at home is old, it has windows 98 (yeah it should be in a museum) I don't know how it got into safe mode, but I went to the help menu and followed all the directions to take it out of safe mode, but it won't get out. The directions said to go to the start menu, and click shut down, then click restart, then click ok and hold the ctrl key (or f8 for some computers) and it would take me to the menu to get it out of safe mode but all it does is restart the computer and it's still in safe mode. I've tryed just restarting it and that dosen't work either.

I hate to say it, but he's pretty clueless with electronics and whenever he's had a PC he's managed to get several viruses (even with a lot of virus and spyware protection). If he does end up getting a virus or spyware junk while he's on the home network, will it travel to my computers?
Any thoughts on a SAFE and profitable home-based business? I'd love to find something to do online at home that doesn't involve selling or a large investment. I'm very experienced with computers and thought about trying to get involved with telecommuting through a reputable company. Any ideas? Thanks!
Is it safe for me to turn Messenger Service on if I have my computers behind a router? I have my three computers connected to a wireless router, and they all have the Messenger Service (the one that creates the gray boxes with info) turned off. It is safe for me to turn this service back on now because I have the computers behind a router? Does being on a home network make it impossible for strangers to send me those annoying messages that I don't care about? I want to use it to send messages to people on the computers because they are at different parts of the house.
What are the safest work-at-home jobs there are, now, without any catch? It should be free for us to get. No? I mean, there's a web-site I had gone to where I could've been a customer representative by using my home computer and a special home phone that I can use with the computer. The catch was that I had to buy the equipments. I have children and background noises weren't allowed. So my question is where can I find a home job, besides baby-sitting or Avon? What are the requirements?
How do I limit my home router so that only my computers have internet access? I have a laptop and a desktop computer and I have a wireless router in my house. I think anyone who lives in the vicinity can jump on to my internet. I know its not safe. How do I close it out so that only my laptop and my office computer get internet access? Have you heard about the new computer virus? such virus attack computers in the form of antivirus program. when he is instaled on computer, he ruins the whole computer. Conclusion, everyone that is connected on Internet from his or her home computer is condemned. I use public computers. My home computer is safe.
How safe is a home wireless network? Without adding the security (anyone nearby can access) and with the added (for example Linksys) security. My friend is reluctant to use a secure network because someone (or a bot) hacked into his computer using his unsecure network.
Problems with Safe Mode in Windows XP Home Edition? I have been trying to start my computer in Safe Mode, but when I press f8 it just doesn't happen. For some reason it comes up with F2: and a black screen, then sits there for a while, and if I press enter it will just continue to boot up in Normal Mode. I have been able to start it in Safe Mode once or twice before, but it is really a hit and miss thing. I'm going nuts as I really want to remove all traces of ZoneAlarm and this is the only way to do it. Please help me somebody - tell me how to get my computer into Safe Mode.

Is the wi-fi network in my home safe? I recently purchased a laptop so that I could more conveniently use my computer in my house. I'm using a Netgear wi-fi hub with a firewall. Is the information on my computer, or that which I provide, say a credit card on an e-comm site, safe while using my laptop in such a scenario? What can I do to insure that my computer activities can not be seen or tracked?
How to disable the username & password signin for Windows 2000 Professional on home computer? I loaded windows 2000 Professional on my home computer some time ago, which originally has (and still does) Windows ME. First, the look of the desktop went from normal to safe-mode look. nest, my colors were changed and reduced. Finally, it not only kept requiring me to login to access the computer, but monthly (or so) would as that I change username and password. Now, I can't remember what either is, and I can't get into my computer. Is there some way to disable the login so I can access my computer?
How do I restart my computer in safe mode? I still cannot get an image file out of My document folder, so I am going to try to restart my computer in Safe Mode, but I can't figure out how. Safe mode ?'s? I am trying to open my home computer into safe mode, b/c I believe there is a virus on the computer. My comp screen works all the up to the windows 98 screen & than goes to blackish blue & doesn't let me do anything else. Is there a way that I can still open it up in safe mode to see if I can still run a virus scan to try & save the computer? Okay, I was able to open it up in safe mode, but it doesn't remotely look normal. The top half of the screen is blue dots spaced out & the bottom half is almost normal with some blue dots. Does anyone know if that means it has a virus? Will I be able to use a virus scan in safe mode?
Should Parents put Spyware on their children's personal computers at home? Last year, Harris Interactive conducted a survey regarding parents and the steps they are taking to guarantee their children's safe and reliable use of the Internet. The survey reported that 82 percent of the parents monitor their children's Internet use. Should parents be allowed to track their children's internet activity?

How do I keep my computer and emails safe from ad attachments? I'm getting fed up with rotten buggers (please excuse the French - it could have been worse!!) that attach ads both good and bad - to emails etc. I only find out when family/friends contact me saying they had received my emails with unwanted ads. They've even resorted to have taken our full names off our joint email and connecting them to porn sites!! We have been absolutely horrified and disgusted. It's getting to the stage where you want to sent emails but think is it going to be safe? We took our full names off and just put initials - but that didn't stop them as my cousin in England informed me that she got one today! Now we've changed companies. Is there anything else we can do? We have plenty of good virus and spyware protection for our computer. My computer is my 'window to the world' as I have a medical condition which keeps me at home. They are just ruining my enjoyment. I've even stopped Forwards now. I enjoyed getting them, but now that's ended also. It's just not fair! Mary

What must I do in order to convert a word document so it is Mac computer safe?(Details inside)? I have to write an article for my internship at home. My computer is a PC. I was going to write my article on Mircosoft Word and then put it on my jumpdrive. Then go to my internship to edit it and finalize it. But, my internship only uses Mac computers. It uses Mircosoft Word, too but it's specialized for the Mac. Can I just save the file as a document or do I need to safe it as something else? Sorry there was typo : save, not safe. (on the last sentence) If there's anymore typos, sorry. P.S. I love how I plan on going into writing and I'm like, the worst at grammer and spelling if I don't have spell check. Nice. Humor yourself.
How difficult would it be to be successful doing computer training out of my home? I would like to do consumer-level computer training out of the large basement of my suburban home. I would also do onsite training. I would teach backups, file management, using malware-removal programs, MS Office, home networking, keeping kids safe online, basic hardware upgrades/repairs, using digital cameras/scanners/image editing, using the Internet better, etc. I have several years of experience teaching these things in a career college. I've found the career colleges to be a rip-off for students. I'm absolutely positive I could provide great training, I'm just concerned about the viability of this as a business.
