Security Cabinets Locks Knowledge Base
Do you know which security lock boxes are the best to store video games (Gamecube, XBox (360), PS2)? I have my newphew and my brother who plays video games. Last time about 3 or 4 disappeared from their rooms because it was stolen. Some were real good games. My mom have a file cabinet to put their video games in there. But somehow, someone jamed the file cabinet lock and caused each game stolen. My mom thinks that it must be someone who is not living in my home. Now, my brother's GameCube wireless controller is gone the file cabinet lock is useless. I tried to look for a security box with a tough lock for storing video games but, I'm having a tough time and still looking for it. If you or anyone could find a best security lock (whether expensive or not)on the internet. I really hate thieves who steals video games because of their jealous and they couldn't afford it to buy on their own. Video games are expensive these days. Thank you!
Moving out soon, should I be worried? I've been living in a apartment complex for the past year and a half. We're moving out soon, and I didn't have to put a security deposit down. But, we have a 25 month old, and we put drilled in baby security locks in the bottom cabinets so she couldn't get into the chemicals under the sink, etc.. My question is should I be honest with them that I drilled holes into the inside of the cabinet, or should I try to cover it up? Will I be liable to replace the cabinets?
how do you store your guns? Personally, mine are stored in a locked cabinet http://www.stack-on.com/categories/security-cabinets-gun-cabinets/products/66 that is bolted to the floor inside a locked closet. Ammo is in a smaller cabinet also bolted down. I feel this is reasonably safe. I was in a home today where there are children (unlike my home) where loaded guns were left in racks on the wall. There was a Marlin 60 on the table they thought was empty, but when I pulled the bolt back, I found one still in the chamber. I find this casual treatment to be disturbing. I came to his house with my gun locked in a case and the ammo locked in a shoulder bag. At some point I will probably have a 500 lbs safe for my stuff.
Laws regarding a business storing social security numbers? The business I work for requires time cards to contain social security numbers. After hours, time cards can be slid through mail slot, where they lay on the floor for all to see. Since the door/windows are glass... the public can peek in and try to view this info (depending on if the time card falls face up/down). Each employee hand writes all their info, so sometimes, it is in quite large print. The central office also has a lot of foot traffic and all time cards, physical employee files, etc. are not locked up. Often, they are laying out in the open. Anyone walking in can peek at this info while speaking with the staff. Are there any laws regarding employee privacy and social security laws? The root cause is the owner, who refuses to change practices or provide locking filing cabinets (or even sufficient non-locking storage areas).
What is the best (cheap) way to contest charges against my security deposit? Upon moving out of my apartment I received a check for $32.00 (that's all that was left of my $400.00 security deposit after 'additional charges'). The rental company claims that it costs: $38.00 for drywall damage (nails in walls for pictures) $144.00 for removal of plastic toddler locks on cabinet doors $186 for additional paint (the holes?) What I'm wondering is what rights I have with regard to contesting these charges. I think it's ludicrous to believe that such 5-minute tasks require so much money. What can I do to recover these exorbitant gouges? The other part of the question is Where do they come up with these prices? Is there a standard legally accepted manual or do they just make them up to best serve their own interests? How is it legal to charge so much? I've noticed that rental companies (landlords in general) all do this. I'm wondering why/how they can get away with it. Thanks for your help.
What am I entitled to deduct from the security deposit and how much? Here is my situation- I would really appreciate some advice. I am a first time landlord on a 2 story, 3 bedroom/2.5 bathroom condo, approximately 1400 square feet. Our tenants just finished their 1 year lease this week and I have 21 days under CA law to return the deposit. There are some issues however and I am wondering what I am entitled to deduct from her $1000 security deposit and for how much for each issue? 1) Downstairs wood laminate flooring - not cleaned 2) Missing mailbox key (spoke to post office and they said it would be $50 to redo the locks) 3) Inside of oven did not seem to be cleaned 4) Sub par paint work - paint on door frames, baseboards, etc... (her family owns a handyman business and we allowed her to repaint all our walls & ceiling with materials we provided for $1000 deduction from her initial rent payment- but we never saw the finished work til now after they have moved out. They did a pretty poor job. Doors & baseboards were not included but it looks like they did not tape up upstairs so there is peach paint around the door frames & baseboards and uneven paint coverage on the walls) 5) Missing patio furniture (1 round glass table + 4 plastic chairs - I probably paid about $50 for the set when I bought it new) 6) Missing storage cabinets (Probably paid $50 for them new) 7) Missing floor lamp (Probably paid $15 for it new) I informed her of the missing items and she said her family may have just taken everything while moving unknowingly and if she locates them, she will return them by placing them on our back patio (open side gate). How long should I give her to return these items? The last issue is that in the last 6 months, her rent has been late 5 of those months. I have never collected the late fees from her although in the lease agreement it states that every day it is late is $10. For November, she moved out on the 10th. Rent is due on the 1st, late fees are supposed to commence on the 6th. It is now the 14th and still no rent check has been received. I asked her again about this last payment and she states her father definitely sent the check on the 5th (which would still mean her payment would have arrived late). If I didn't receive the check in the mail by today, they would have to put a stop payment on the check and send me a new one. She seems to think she is not responsible if her check is lost in the mail. What am I entitled to collect on late fees? Can they be deducted from the security deposit? For future reference, once we get new tenants in the condo, how should I deal with late fees? How should I keep proof of late arrival dates? Being a landlord can be such a pain in the butt. :( I would hire a property management company if I had more than one rental but after this first year's experience, I'm not sure I want to deal with the headache of additional tenants. Thanks in advance! *EDIT* Unfortunately, I was unaware that CA law required that I send written notification prior to her moving out for the option to do an intial walk-through. Although I did come a week prior to move-out to try and show the unit to a prospective tenant and the place was in complete disarray due to her being in the middle of packing. She refused me entry during the month of October which certainly hindered my ability to try and find new tenants in a timely manner as well. In hindsight, I was too nice and accommodating during the lease period. I should have insisted on inspecting the paint job. We came a month later for a work receipt for tax reasons and it still was not finished and I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it would be fine. They promised an awesome job since they wanted to make sure the placed looked nice since they were living in it. Apparently, she was unhappy with the color I chose which she brought up today during our phone conversation and then hung up on me. Rude
Which Gun Cabinet to Get? I can't really afford a gun safe, but this is definetley better than nothing. Does anyone have experience with these cabinets? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sentry-5-Gun-Safe/4244347?findingMethod=rr http://www.walmart.com/ip/Stack-On-8-Gun-Security-Cabinet/11071333?findingMethod=rr I would really like to have a combination lock, but that's not my budget, unless i find one on craigslist. If anyone has experience with either one of these cabinets that would be great, or if someone has a different cabinet that they would like to recommend that would also be great.
Will Social Security be around when you need it? i won't get it. read the following. Please star this question and ask others to respond Social Security to start cashing Uncle Sam's IOUs By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER, Associated Press Writer Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 14 mins ago PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – The retirement nest egg of an entire generation is stashed away in this small town along the Ohio River: $2.5 trillion in IOUs from the federal government, payable to the Social Security Administration. It's time to start cashing them in. For more than two decades, Social Security collected more money in payroll taxes than it paid out in benefits — billions more each year. Not anymore. This year, for the first time since the 1980s, when Congress last overhauled Social Security, the retirement program is projected to pay out more in benefits than it collects in taxes — nearly $29 billion more. Sounds like a good time to start tapping the nest egg. Too bad the federal government already spent that money over the years on other programs, preferring to borrow from Social Security rather than foreign creditors. In return, the Treasury Department issued a stack of IOUs — in the form of Treasury bonds — which are kept in a nondescript office building just down the street from Parkersburg's municipal offices. Now the government will have to borrow even more money, much of it abroad, to start paying back the IOUs, and the timing couldn't be worse. The government is projected to post a record $1.5 trillion budget deficit this year, followed by trillion dollar deficits for years to come. Social Security's shortfall will not affect current benefits. As long as the IOUs last, benefits will keep flowing. But experts say it is a warning sign that the program's finances are deteriorating. Social Security is projected to drain its trust funds by 2037 unless Congress acts, and there's concern that the looming crisis will lead to reduced benefits. "This is not just a wake-up call, this is it. We're here," said Mary Johnson, a policy analyst with The Senior Citizens League, an advocacy group. "We are not going to be able to put it off any more." For more than two decades, regardless of which political party was in power, Congress has been accused of raiding the Social Security trust funds to pay for other programs, masking the size of the budget deficit. Remember Al Gore's "lockbox," the one he was going to use to protect Social Security? The former vice president talked about it so much during the 2000 presidential campaign that he was parodied on "Saturday Night Live." Gore lost the election and never got his lockbox. But to illustrate the government's commitment to repaying Social Security, the Treasury Department has been issuing special bonds that earn interest for the retirement program. The bonds are unique because they are actually printed on paper, while other government bonds exist only in electronic form. They are stored in a three-ring binder, locked in the bottom drawer of a white metal filing cabinet in the Parkersburg offices of Bureau of Public Debt. The agency, which is part of the Treasury Department, opened offices in Parkersburg in the 1950s as part of a plan to locate important government functions away from Washington, D.C., in case of an attack during the Cold War. One bond is worth a little more than $15.1 billion and another is valued at just under $10.7 billion. In all, the agency has about $2.5 trillion in bonds, all backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government. But don't bother trying to steal them; they're nonnegotiable, which means they are worthless on the open market. More than 52 million people receive old age or disability benefits from Social Security. The average benefit for retirees is a little under $1,200 a month. Disabled workers get an average of $1,100 a month. Social Security is financed by payroll taxes — employers and employees must each pay a 6.2 percent tax on workers' earnings up to $106,800. Retirees can start getting early, reduced benefits at age 62. They get full benefits if they wait until they turn 66. Those born after 1960 will have to wait until they turn 67. Social Security's financial problems have been looming for years as the nation's 78 million baby boomers approached retirement age. The oldest are already there. As that huge group of people starts collecting benefits — and stops paying payroll taxes — Social Security's trust funds will shrink, running out of money by 2037, according to the latest projection from the trustees who oversee the program. The recession is making things worse, at least in the short term. Tax receipts are down from the loss of more than 8 million jobs, and applications for early retirement benefits have spiked from older workers who were laid off and forced to retire. Stephen C. Goss, chief actuary for the Social Security Administration, says the crisis has been years in the making. "If this helps get peop
What do doors represent to the universe? The last few days I have had trouble with doors. The door of my house, the door of my car, cabinet doors...you name it, if it can be construed as a door, it has come loose, fallen off, broken the lock, anything that can go wrong with a door has. So being very into omens and messages from the universe, I am wondering what it is trying to tell me. Don't tell me its a coincidence.....play along...look at it from a symbolic place and tell me what you think. What do you think I am being told if the doors in my life are in disrepair? Freedom or lack of security? Abandon or lack of privacy? What do you think?
Managerial Theory Question? This is for a management class, so some reference to managerial theory would be appreciated. " Your company has a policy that all company-sensitive material must be stored in locked filing cabinets at the end of each day. You have been advised by the Security Director that one of your workers has received several notices for violating this policy. " What should I do as the manager?

To all who attended a tea party yesterday - where were you during the last 8 years? With no fanfare and little notice, the national debt has grown by more than $4 trillion during George W. Bush’s presidency. It’s the biggest increase under any president in U.S history. On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. The latest number from the Treasury Department shows the national debt now stands at more than $9.849 trillion. That’s a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush’s watch. The bailout plan now pending in Congress could add hundreds of billions of dollars to the national debt – though President Bush said this morning he expects that over time, “much if not all” of the bailout money “will be paid back.” But the government is taking no chances. Buried deep in the hundred pages of bailout legislation is a provision that would raise the statutory ceiling on the national debt to $11.315 trillion. It’ll be the 7th time the debt limit has been raised during this administration. In fact it was just two months ago, on July 30, that President Bush signed the Housing and Economic Recovery Act, which contained a provision raising the debt ceiling to $10.615 trillion. Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto declined an invitation to comment on the enormous jump in the national debt during Mr. Bush’s presidency. He referred me to OMB – the Office of Management and Budget, which tried to make the case that as a percentage of the economy, the national debt is not that big. In its budget documents in February, OMB estimated that next year’s national debt would hit $10.4 trillion – which it said would amount to 69.3 percent of the gross domestic product – the standard measure of the size of the economy. That’s high – but far from an all-time high. After World War II, the national debt soared to over $270 billion – a quaint figure by today’s standards. Numerically, it’s less than the amount of federal deficit we now run up in a single year. But back in 1946, the Debt amounted to 121.7 percent of the size of the total economy. By the time Richard Nixon began his second term in 1973, the national debt had grown to $466 billion – though as percentage of GDP, it had fallen to 35.7 percent. Today, OMB press secretary Corinne Hirsch, renewed the oft-made government argument that reporters should focus on just that part of the national debt that is held by the public – now about $5.6 trillion and not include that portion billed as “intra-governmental holdings” – money the government owes itself – especially the Social Security and Medicare trust funds. Of course, the government doesn’t have that money either. It’s been spent. President Bush made that point himself on April 5, 2005, when he paid a visit to the offices of the Bureau of the Public Debt in Parkersburg, W.Va. He was shown a white file cabinet with keypad locks on each of its four drawers in which the Social Security Trust Fund is stored. On that day, there was no cash – as he noted in a speech later in the day. “There is no 'trust fund,' just IOUs that I saw firsthand, that future generations will pay – will pay for either in higher taxes, or reduced benefits, or cuts to other critical government programs,” he told an audience at West Virginia University. The government didn’t have the money it owed itself back then – and still doesn’t. A couple of weeks after he took office, President Bush addressed the Republican Congressional Retreat in Williamsburg and declared that his budget “pays down the national debt.” In recent years, President Bush almost never mentions the national debt. source: http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/29/couricandco/entry4486228.shtml Another good analysis: http://news.yahoo.com/s/realclearpolitics/have_free_markets_replaced_free_love
Is every lock/key different on every single files cabinet, small safes, etc - or could one go buy a duplicate? Is every lock/key different on every single files cabinet, small safes, etc - or could one go buy another one of the same style/brand from the same store and the keys could work on either one? Sorry if not in best category - but since it involves some money being locked away for security - that would be a financial issue. :) So - do you think a locked metal or wooden file cabinet would be a fairly safe place to lock up a wallet, credit cards, cash etc - and if anyone did get into it - there would be obvious signs of it being broken? I know it's not like a bolted down safe - but we are just looking to protect elderly father's wallet while home care workers, etc are in and out of his home and when he leaves the home he may leave a few hundred in the locked drawer. We are mainly concerned about people just being able to either snatch the wallet or grab cash out of it - so think this could be the solution as a bed side table if I can get him into the habit of locking it in there as soon as he is done - and wearing the key around his neck - along with his Life Line he has on all the time anyway.

So it would stand to reason that he had seen it all in the realm of espionage. Yet, in the acknowledgements at the end of the book, he states that his research on his other novels "has taken me around the world and into places like KGB headquarters in Moscow, but nothing prepared me for how strange and fascinating I'd find the world of the American high-tech corporation." In Paranoia, he combines high-tech business with corporate security and espionage to create an exciting thriller that the reader will not soon forget. Adam Cassidy is the quintessential slacker who is tired of his job at Wyatt Telecom. He diverts corporate funds to throw a large retirement party for a loading dock employee, and he fully expects to be fired for it. But instead he is threatened with criminal charges if he does not agree to steal highly confidential product plans from Trion, a rival of Wyatt. With the help of the Wyatt's CEO, security chief, and executive coach, he is groomed for an executive job at Trion. He is taught to breach the tightest corporate security and turn over his findings. Thus begins his life as a corporate spy, where the game he is playing becomes more and more treacherous, his loyalties to his friends and employers are stretched to the limit, and he is caught in a web of deceit from which there seems to be no exit. The characters are well drawn and believable. Finder expertly depicts Adam's struggle with his conscience, his problems with his ailing father and best friend, his worries about being unmasked as a spy, and his fondness for his Trion CEO. This makes him a very sympathetic protagonist. The two corporate presidents are strongly contrasted: the Wyatt CEO is ruthless, aloof, and vain; the Trion CEO is paternal, benevolent, and demands honesty. Also included in the interesting cast of characters are a quirky staff engineer, some power-hungry middle managers, a jealous and competitive coworker, and a shady security chief with a penchant for violence. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and the final plot twist was a powerhouse. Not only is this a fast-paced thriller, but it provides fascinating facts about espionage and corporate security. Each section defines an espionage term, which is then exemplified in the story line. I was shocked to learn about how lax corporate security can be, permitting access to password-protected PCs and locked offices and file cabinets. Even badge readers and biometric scanners can be circumvented. This is definitely worth reading, but be sure to schedule it for when you have some spare time, because once you start it you will have trouble putting it down.
Landlord / Tenant law question.. texas specific..? There is a lot of history to this question, so i'll try to be brief... Basically, I'm a terrible record keeper as I tend to be a little too trusting... I had several issues with my property while renting it. Doors stopped shutting due to settling of the house, a leak from outside caused water to smear the paint and I believe mold the drywall. Anytime it rained an entire corner of my bedroom would become soaked. My AC unit leaked for over a week while I requested repair and stained the carpet. We had a mice infestation at one point and they chewed at carpet in the upstairs bedroom damaging it. One of the bedroom door locks do not work, nor has ever worked. Now, I have children and they have caused some damage to the unit as well. Marker markings on one of the kitchen cabinets.. After I moved out they noticed some silly string on the ceiling in the living room. A cigarette burn in the bedroom carpet was caused by us. Now here is the current situation. The landlord is basically saying every ounce of damage was caused by me. I owned a hamster the NEVER LEFT ITS CAGE... they say the carpet damage was caused by it, not the mice. The water damage to the carpet was my fault.. I'm not sure what they're saying about the damage to the wall from the outside leak. They're saying every piece of carpet in the place needs to be replaced and that several doors need replaced. And a long list of other issues. Here is the kicker, and my ultimate question. I paid rent through Dec 31st, but moved out Dec 16th. The property manager did my move out inspection and said 'it was one of the cleanest units she's ever seen' and gave me my $600 deposit back in full on the spot (I used a military deposit waiver, a piece of paper that they can keep which prevents me from leaving my duty station until they get whatever they say is owed to them, but I got it back). I gave her the key and all was good. Dec 27th, the owner, the source of my issues, moved into my apartment (5 days before my rent ended on the place) and said they noticed all this damage. I have been returned my security deposit, in full, and done a move out inspection 2 weeks ago. They called me and said they were going to sue me for all the damages, which they say is already totaling close to $4000. Can they still sue for damages after a move-out inspection was done and security deposit was returned in full? One more thing I might add then. When the property manager did the move out inspection with me, she did not put anything on paper... She only handed me my deposit. As far as a piece of paper saying 'no damage found' signed by her, I do not have. Is simply having my deposit back in full still strong evidence?
Leave or Keep trying to pay the bill? Well I have a akward situation. My keys were stolen from me and this crazy guy (hes bi-polar)Got into my apartment. He would not give my keys back, and it was hard for the police to catch him. But one day I told him he had to give me my keys back. And he went crazy cause i called security and police on him. He damaged a lot of my apartment. So I told my landlord my situation and said that I WILL take responsibility for the damages and I could fix it, or pay for it. Now the problem is that I can rarely get ahold of her. Her and one of her staff people are VERY rude. And not only me, but a lot of other tenants have a problem getting a hold of her. I was able to get a a hold of her I would have been able to get her to change the locks......I finally did get in touch with her and she only gave me an estimate on how much the damages were. ($40 for each hole in the wall, 60 for the cabinets, etc.) SO now im ready to move, I only have two things left in my apartment. Which can be moved easily, and everytime i call the office either shes tooo busy to talk or shes not there or they never answer the phone. I'm trying to do the right thing. I want to be able to just move out and pay the bill for the damages. So I don't know what to do now??????????? Do I just give her the keys back and leave and forget about it or what?????
Would it be possible to pull of an 'oceans-11' operation to steal KFC's secret recipe ? Apparently KFC's recipe is well guarded, they use off-duty police officers and private security guards. On top of all of this: " For more than 20 years, the recipe has been tucked away in a filing cabinet equipped with two combination locks in company headquarters. To reach the cabinet, the keepers of the recipe would first open up a vault and unlock three locks on a door that stood in front of the cabinet. " Whether you'll accuse me of having too much time on my hands or simply being over-ambitious as well as foolish, I don't know about all of you but II like challenges in life. I am now actively recruiting 10 smart asses who excel in the following fields to aid me on my mission to 'steal' the KFC recipe. 1) an I.T wizard hacker kid living a life on forged identities with access to major govt mainframe computers as well as knowledge of jamming/hacking/disrupting security cameras. 2) a 5 foot 2 inch, 60-90 lb gymnastic (the shorter and lighter the better) 3) A senior citizen with good acting skills (i'll need you to pass yourself off as a descendant of the Saudi Royal family...) 4) The best street-pocket/thiefing twat in England, Ireland or Scotland. 5) A femme fatale - a seductress who always gets her way with men, if 'big t!ts, a pretty face and no brains' is what you're all about girls - send me your resumes asap. 6) An Animal Rights activist - just be ready @ any moment, we'll need you. The chickens need you. Do it for the chickens. 7) an ex-CIA operative with forged documents and access to the best 'get-a-way' drivers in the united states. 8) A compton crip gang member - I just know I can rely on you if it has to come down to some f@#ked up sh!t. right ? 9) An ex professional wrestler - sleeper holds baby, sleeper holds. 10) A diehard KFC fan - You wake up each morning with fried chicken wings and potatoe wedges on your mind. KFC rocks. KFC is the reason you haven't commited suicide. KFC IS your life. 11) and finally, the mastermind behind it all, the coordinator the brainbank the think thank the daddy of the whole ploy, ME. IF you feel you fulfil any of the 11 positions, or have the abilities I seek - please let me know by answering the question heh. so which number are you ? let me know if you qualify as any of the above and i'll consider your application. fo reeeal dawg. awesome! excellent thats that taken care of, ok folks hurry - i need to recruit you all by 6am 10th sept 08.
Help! Mom's meds are being stolen!!!? Mom has been in a five-star rated retirement home, she has her own private apartment and is in Independent Living. She has been there for a year and a half. Her Hydrocodone has been stolen at least three times that we are sure of and there are no security cameras anywhere except the entrances. I know Mom is not over dosing herself because I have seen her when the pain is bad and she takes two pills instead of one - she cannot function at all, so to think she is going through 100 pills in 10 days is ridiculous. We have gotten her a small office safe and a locking file cabinet, but she forgets to put her meds in it regularly. Regardless, I want this S.O.B. caught! We have a detective working with us, but the problem is that there are just too many people there who have access to her apartment. Anyone with a master key can get in. PLEASE, does anyone know of a "nanny cam" that is small, wireless and records for long periods of time? I live nearby, so I can pick it up each afternoon and review it and drop it back off for the next 12 or 24 hours. Please send me a name or a link or something, o.k? Thanks so much! P.S. Mom does not have a laptop or a VCR, so I need something with a "card" or tape I can put into our PC. Thanks! The one thing we WILL NOT do it notify the management or director. Mom told them the last time and two days later (after two staff meetings) her meds show up in the way back of a drawer she hardly ever goes into. It was just chance that she found it. She needed an old necklace and found the meds tucked WAY back in the box.
Applying for shotgun/firearm certificate with previous convictions? I've realised I need a new hobby and decided to get back into doing the things I always used to enjoy doing. One of these things is shooting. I grew up farming etc and live in a rural environment, so I'm thinking of applying for either a shotgun or firearm certificate - maybe both. I have land to shoot on and already have the necessary security measures installed at home (expensive air rifles led to me installing cabinets/safes some years ago.) Here's the problem..... In 2002 I stupidly got a drink drive conviction, and even MORE stupidly in 2005 got another one (3 year ban). When I was pulled over (2005) obviously I was searched, the usual procedure, and I had a locking knife in my trouser pocket. This is NOT what it might sound like, I work in a timber yard and a knife is a very much essential tool, I had gone straight to the pub (bar for US readers) from work and was still in my work clothes (overalls, hi vis jacket etc etc). Anyway I also got a "possession of a bladed article" conviction for that, which I didn't feel was really justified but anyway that's another story. What's the likelihood of my application being rejected due to these convictions? It goes without saying that I no longer stupidly risk drink driving and leave my knife at work, much more responsible these days. I accept that I have made mistakes, and I held my hands up to every single one of them, will those mistakes continue to punish me when I apply for my license? Thanks in advance.
Can I break my lease due to maintenance issues? I live in an apartment that is owned by a large management company and we have been having some issues with the maintenance. When we moved in we were given a checklist to go over and we marked everything in the apartment that needed to fixed/replaced, etc. We've lived here for 4 months now and nothing has been replaced or fixed. The refrigerator is broken, there are huge cracks in the kitchen wall, a couple of the cabinets in the kitchen are falling apart. On top of this, (and this is my big reason for wanting to leave) when we moved in the bedroom window lock was broken so we couldn't open the window. Instead of replacing the lock on the window, maintenance just removed the lock completely and now our bedroom window doesn't even lock at all. This makes me feel very uncomfortable because not my entire home is secure. I have requested that these things be fixed and replaced numerous times via email, telephone call, in person meetings and messages and so far, nothing has been fixed. They keep telling me they will get around to it, and they haven't yet. My question is, are these things legit reasons for being able to break our lease? We will gladly let them keep the security deposit, but we don't want to have to pay the extra fees associated with breaking the lease because we feel as though the management company hasn't held up their end of the contract by not fixing anything in our apartment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
What do you think of the beginning to my story? Katherine Hawthorne rolled her eyes. “This is so typical,” she murmured, shivering as cool tendrils of air snaked along her skin. “Here I am, Rio de Janeiro of all places, and the bad guys just have to have a thing for air con.” Katherine crept forward, muttering curses under her breath. Concealed in the shadows, she darted around a dark corner and pressed herself against the wall, allowing her to survey her surroundings. She was standing at the end of an incredibly long corridor - a walkway of silver and chrome. The dim lighting allowed her to make out a few inconspicuous doors, all placarded with small black numbers. Glancing at the door to her right, Katherine read, “Three-hundred and fifty-two.” She was on the right track – only seventeen more to go. With a quick glance over her shoulder, Katherine began to follow the numbers. She paced quietly, careful not to let her shoes squeak on the tiled floor. A thin line of perspiration formed on her forehead, which she quickly wiped away, grimacing. For weeks she had hoped to be sent to a warm, exotic location – anywhere to escape the bitter Connecticut winter that battered her senses. Admittedly, the academy had paid up nicely - “Rio, Baby!” – and even though Katherine knew she would only be here for a couple of days max, it would still be long enough to thaw the cold out of her bones. And maybe get a little bit of a tan, too. But no. Whoever ran this place clearly liked to feel as though they were walking around in a big, industrial freezer. Oh, cruel irony. Katherine wouldn’t have been surprised to see big chunks of meat hanging down from hooks in the ceiling. “Is it too much to ask for a little bit warmth?” Katherine griped, pressing the small button on the side of her watch. The circular face lit up, numbers dancing around the screen. “Eleven minutes to twelve,” she made a quick calculation, “I’ve got about ten minutes before the next security check.” Picking up the pace, she dashed forward, softly counting down each door number she passed, “Three-hundred and sixty-six…sixty-seven…sixty-eight…ah, sixty-nine!” Katherine drew to a stop. Wasting no time, she flicked open the panel near the door handle to reveal a small alarm pad. She studied it for a second before her lips broke out in a smile, “Nothing to it.” In just a few seconds, a satisfactory click emitted from the lock and the door swung forward on its hinges. “Bad guys – you’d think they’d have the sense to invest in better security systems…” Katherine stepped forward and closed the door behind her, immediately encased in a blanket of gloom. “…And lighting, they definitely need better lighting.” Katherine fished a small torch out of her pocket and flicked it on; the small golden beam illuminated row after row of filing cabinets that seemed to stretch indefinitely into the darkness. “Well, this mission just got a little more complex…” Katherine bit down on her lip, momentarily overwhelmed, but quickly shook the emotion off. She was a level four agent, after all – this mission was relatively easy in comparison to some of the things she got up to. Finding a file? Katherine thought. Oh, please. Try abseiling down a three hundred foot building with a makeshift descender (whilst being shot at from all angles, I might add) and trying to make off with the latest evil gadget that – once again - threatened all of humanity. Now that was pressure! And yes: it was a lot harder than I made it seem. And yes: it was the best spring break ever. In an attempt to gear herself up, Katherine drew on her memory and recalled the file she had been told to find in debriefing; “File ‘GWf-bioT’, here I come.” *********************************************************************************** Okay, that was only about a third of the first chapter (stupid word limit), but what do you think? Loved it? Hated it? Would you continue reading it if you could? Please leave an answer to tell me. Thanks to everyone in advance :)

Civil or small claims court? My landlord charged me for damages that I did not do. Everytime I get a witness that knows what happened to his susdpose damages he call and says he remember that he wants to pay me my money for that particular damage. He also states that I did not pay him his full deposit when I have a receipt that says paid in full 00 balace. He sent me a check for $111.00 in which I am not excepting. The charges are for 4 door locks in which I had to change because the key he made did not fit and he lost his. 2 a window I replaced after the hurrican that he said he would go halfon and didn't. And a garage that he admits now it is not my fault because I have a witness. Out of $800 that is what he gave me. I fixed his stove top broiler unit, painted his house, fixed his closet doors that was loose when I rented the unit, fixed the cabinet that was messed up because he didn't fix the leak. Can I sue him for Security Deposit and repairs? Can I get an example or a web page?

What are these weird noises in my house? I bought an old craftsman house near Issaquah Highlands, WA and I live all alone, not pets, no nothing. The house is restored and very nice, but there are some weird features. There is a boarded up attic, and for some reason there are these marks I can't get out of the walls of my bedroom, so I had to repaint. So, I work in Bellevue and I live a normal life, just a few extra stuff to do, but every so often, when I'm upstair in the bedroom, I hear something like cabinets slamming downstairs, and m ears are good, so I can't be making that up. I don't believe in ghost, but I don't see a problem with the house other than those creepy features I told you all, no foundation problems, and usually there aren't many creaks, it doesn't get hot often in Seattle, only mild in the summer. Weird... Well, at night, it gets very cold, which I llike since I fall asleep easily in the cold(weird I know) and I usually go to bed around 12:00. Well, one night, my security alarm went off suddenly and I grabbed my pistol, and creeped downstairs, I searched the whole house. NOBODY there. The police arrived because the alarm went on for so long, but I couldn't find nothing, no broken windows, nothing. So, I just though nothing of it and went on with my life. I have the weekends off and I woke up and something felt eary about this morning. It was bright and partually cloudy, but I felt like somthing was wrong. My door was closed and so I just brushed my teeth and as soon as I headed for the door, there were these loud thumps about a few feet from the door, CLACK-CLACK-CLACK! and I was freaked out, I stayed in my room with the door locked for hours and when I went out, I found nothing. Today, I came home from work and I was eating cereal in the living room. The TV was on King 5 news and All of a sudden, I saw a black figure in the bathroom, moving around for about 2 seconds. I know I wasn't crazy, What could that be? I don't belive in ghost, but damn, that was scary. Well the thing is, I bought this house from a lonely old man who lived there for 8 years, and he was weird, maybe had anxiety. He toured through the house and he told me about how he lived there and the house was great. He told me all of this creepy personal business. I got the house for cheap too, $420,000, things are expensive here. The avarage hoouse would be 641,000 or something like that, but I enjoyed that. But I don't know what is happening here. What is it? AM I crazy, paranoid?

Help! Landlord issues, now evictment? We received papers today stating we were being evicted and sued. We live in Indiana. Heres the issues we have been having. We moved in in Sept 2010, We have NEVER been late with rent. when we moved in, the carpets were still wet from the cleaning. Two days after they dried, there were dark stains all over it. We contacted the landlord, he said to clean them again. Our backdoor would not lock, we notified him, and he never fixed them. We did not want to mess with them knowing its illegal too. A few months after, things started going down hill. Our roof started leaking during rain storms; the cabinets between our washer and dryers plumbing in them started leaking, creating black mold we notified him and he bleached it while we weren't home 4 times causing my asthma to act up, never fixed the leak; Our water is so rough, every two showers there's rust running down the walls; No carbon monoxide detector; handle was broken on screen door, told him and ask him to fix it, he took it off and never put one on! My husband asked him when he was gonna put another one on, and he said not for a very long time!; electrical lighting in our bedroom is faulty; He enters our house when we are not home, he has been caught by my friend once, and cops have been called a second time. we had to send him a letter and he never responded. We live in a creek, and pond that's about 30 feet from our backdoor.. In march when all the snow melted, our yard flooded, causing our septic to flood and also back into the plumbing... we called him out, he cleaned the septic. Then three days later we recived a "text" stating we owe him 465 dollars for cleaning the septic (his buddy did it for free from what we were told the day of) and never saw a paper bill. he claimed it all backed up because of a "feminine" item stuck in the toilet and that I am responsible. We stated to him, I do not get "the time of the month" because I have medical issues, and no one comes to our house who is a girl so It must hve been from prior tenant.. never heard another thing till three months later! we got a letter in june from his attourny stating we owe 365 dollars and he will take our deposit because it states in the lease if we are responsible for the problem we owe half! ummmm, thats not half. And in no earthy way were we responsible for it. Anyways, today we recived complaint for ejectment papers, saying we are getting sued for 365 dollars and our security deposit hs already been taken, and we 'broke our lease' because we didn't maintain the property! The cause; we didnt keep up with the grass! Its been raining for 5 days! once the rain stopped we mowed. Again. do we have to pay rent? and is there anything we can do, this guys is seriously crazy. BTW, he is also suing the people who lived here before us for the carpet!!! yet it was never replaced!? Im confused, we were the ones bringing action against him, I even called the health department and Attorney General because our real estate agent said it was wrong, and to report him, yet he comes back with this? Please, no rude comments! Have respect.
Large garden office - whats best, wooden or composite/modular construction? I'm looking at putting in a large garden office, probably 4m x 6m or 4m x 7m and have pretty much narrowed it down to two types... Ones a wooden one like this : http://www.weatherstrong.co.uk/newengland.asp (big pic : http://www.weatherstrong.co.uk/images/newengland/retreat_main.jpg ) The other is an insulated type like this : http://www.insulatedbuildings.co.uk/eco_ranges.shtml (the wooden effect one, but much bigger) Firstly, has anyone had any experience with products from these suppliers? One of my main concerns is security, i run a mail order business from home and this will be my office, stockroom and packing room so it needs to be secure. The wooden one can have double glazed (wooden) windows and a wooden door but the modular one has upvc dg windows and multipoint locking doors, and i think would be more secure, but not sure? The wooden one will give some mezanine storage area due to its height and the insulated one is better insulated and sound proofed but just on one level. Has anyone got any experience of buildings like this, in comparison to each other? Anyone confirm if the modular one is going to be more secure? I have some extremely heavy metal cabinets to go in there, the wooden building people say they can put extra supports in under the floor, but the modular people say no problem, as they have customers using same types for freezer and cold room storage. Prices are roughly similar although wooden slightly more. Sorry for squeezing more than one question in here lol! All comments welcome Cheers Jim prices for similar sizes are aroundabout the same for either the wood or the modular
How careful are you about your children's documents? Such as birth certificates, social security cards, passports etc? I have mini BC I keep in my wallet and I keep their SS cards there, too. I heard in the past that you shouldn't carry them with you. So, once I put them in my locked jewelry box and later found that the kids got in it and played with their stuff and I had to get new ones! grrr Now, I realize I cannot remember where I put my own BC or hubby's. Somewhere in this mess of an office.. but I have no idea where. There's about 35 cabinets and you couldn't imagine the paperwork stuffed in there. I need to go down and get new ones. How many times have you had to purchase extras? Or have you kept the originals since they were born? Yahoo is messing up majorly. I only clicked "Post Question" one time and it posted by question 3 times. I had to delete the other 2, but it took 15 points. Just beware when you're posting questions today. Yes, des. Will you be my lawyer for free? Resident, in my state you get a raised seal BC or an identical SS card if you go to the court house and pay the fee. I have heard of ppl just getting "copies" but I've always got an identical one.
Why do I miss my wife? I fell in love with a very beautiful woman (20 years my junior) who came from a brutal background and who had not told me she was both HIV+ and Hep C+. When she did eventually tell me, I was understandably shocked. My tests were negative (incredibly and thankfully). She came from a country where drugs were not available and whilst she looked in shining health, her life expectancy was less than 5 years on the basis of her own blood tests. My dilemma was that I would have to marry her or she couldn't get into the country and access the drugs needed. I agonised over the decision for months, knowing that turning my back would mean certain death for her and leave her 3 year old parentless. Eventually, I decided to help her get well. It took 2 years of radical medical therapy which stretched her physical resources to the absolute extreme - but she emerged intact and with a full life-span expectancy and looks better and more stunningly beautiful than ever. She came to the marriage with the little girl who loves me and calls me Daddy and she is the light of my life. We have a strong and healthy relationship. When my wife got physically better, underlying unreasonable behaviour which had not previously been so evident became more prevalent: both verbal and physical aggression, petulance, moody silences, selfishness, huge insecurity and paranoia, etc. She has a job but refuses to contribute in even the most minor way to anything domestic. I pay for absolutely everything, including holidays and her daughter's clothes and hobbies. When I stopped rising to her irrational outbursts and just ignored the worst side of her behaviour, she seemed to get fed up with my apparent lack of interest and only her daughter and I ever did family outings and sports together - my wife went off and did her own thing, whatever that was - she would never say. Recently, I took my credit card back from her as she was showing no signs of looking rationally at our partnership from a co-dependency perspective - and less than 6 weeks later she has gone. The little girl was put on a plane (without she or I knowing this was her mother's intention) back to her granny in another continent and my wife removed every last vestige of her presence (including the cat) from the house and disappeared into the void with no contact since. Granny is obviously under instructions not to let me talk to the girl, as my calls are either ignored or fobbed off with an excuse about the girl's absence. I just received a lawyer's letter seeking divorce (and of course, money) a few days later - so my wife had obviously planned it for some time. I have since heard from mutual friends that she is saying she left because I am a womaniser. Unfortunately (and in light of recent events, I do mean "Unfortunately") this was not the case during our marriage. My wife was so insecure and paranoid that even my female relatives were a threat to her marital security (in her mind). Ironically, you would think that it would be me who was jealous and insecure about my beautiful young wife - but it was the opposite that turned out to be the case. My phone and pc and filing cabinet had to be kept locked to avoid her going into them and either stealing or deleting info that upset her. She even called numbers in my address book with womens' names against them asking aggressively "Who are you?". I know this because several (including my aged aunt) told me they had been called by her. I am sure the little girl will get in touch when she figures out her mother has duped her and that she isn't intended to return. I am not so worried about her immediate welfare, as Granny will look after her well enough. My wife has not enough money to support herself in the city and unless she finds someone else to fund her, she will gravitate back to the same margins where her problems began. On one level, the story above is one of parasitic behaviour when faced with nothing but kindness. On another, it's a story of a life brutalised at an early stage and still making self-destructive decisions that will put her straight back where she will be at risk again. I never understood that when I managed to cure the severe physical ailments with which she was afflicted that I would be faced with an even more insurmountable task in facing the behavioural ones that had probably brought her to that state in the first place. However, and strange as it may seem, looking back 7 years later - I might even do the same again: marry her to save her life - even though she would still behave according to type and use me and leave when she had sucked me dry. It was a very worthwhile thing I did (for myself). No one who ever met her would believe much of what I have written, as she was always bubbly and charming for public consumption. However, the truth is as plain as the words above. So why do I miss her?
Physical Storage solutions for multiple USB keys? I work in Security for the Federal Government. My particular Department cannot store certain levels of information on our network (often Secret information). One of our solutions is to store the information on USB keys and lock them in a secure cabinet when not in use. This is fine for 1 or 2 keys but some branches have as many as 30 or 40 files on the go at any given time which means these keys need to be kept track of. Any bright ideas? Are there any storage solutions out there for controlling multiple USB keys? Please send me any links or ideas if you have any. I'm only seeking storage solutions, nothing else. Thanks!
How to tell if you're entering federal property? I live in Seattle. One time I stopped at the post office on my way to a camping trip. I had my camping knife clipped to my pocket and a security guard came right over and plucked it off me and told me it was "very illegal" to have it on federal property. Luckily the man had locked himself out of his filing cabinet so he left me with only a warning. I made sure not to carry a knife in the city after that. (But you should have been there when they found me with a little jar of rock salt.) Anyway, I'm moving to a shadier part of the city now, and I want to carry a knife for protection. I've looked up the knife laws and the knife I want to carry conforms to them. But I don't know how to tell when I'm entering federal land/property. Will there always be a sign? I guess I knew the PO was federal property, but I had no idea it was illegal to have a pocket knife there, and I just wasn't even thinking about that kind of thing.
An All Woman White House in 2012 / 2013? With so many 'brilliant' women winning primaries will there be an all woman White House in 2012/2013? WIth Sarah Palin pretty much having a lock on the Presidential Nomination and Michele Bachman her likely running mate and both certain to win, are these the likely cabinet appointees? Jan Brewer for Homeland Security? Sharon Angle for Attorney General? Christine O'Donnell for Surgeon General? Or should Angle head up Health Education and Welfare? Who could the new Republican-Teabag Coalition get for Secretary of State? Would Joe Lieberman consider Gender reassignment surgery if it helped him get the Job? Are American Feminist thrilled that the above named women are the face of the New American Woman? LSU Rules - - - Since when has an itsy bitsy Tea Bag been 'hateful?' I have seen them dangling from Hats and attached to Signs! You must really hate Mr Lipton!
Can landlord evict me when I payed rent?He is acting in retaliation-he doesn't want to fix maintenance issues!? We moved into a condo in October. We payed first, last, and security. Our rent has been payed on time every month (even after our landlord would misplace the check-we would pay a 33.00 cancelation fee and re-issue another one plus postage!) We noticed a couple of days after moving in that we were missing screens in some of the windows. It is hot in Miami so we were concerned of not being able to open the windows. Roaches, lizards, and ants all can come in with no screen. We contacted him right away. He answered by stating "keep your windows shut". This is in a saved voicemail. Then we decided to turn on the 2 AC units that we have. To our horror the units didn't work! He then came over and stated he would buy new ones. That never happened. We started noticing that we were not being given very much hot water when taking showers or doing the dishes. We opened up the cabinet to the water heater, and again, to our horror we discovered that it was leaking...alot. We contacted our landlord right away however, he never sent a plumber over. He said that he didn't have the funds. We told him we would pay and deduct from our rent but he refused. In January we were startled at 3am by a loud "pop" in our bedroom. Our ceiling fan that our landlord had installed caught on fire! The fire department had to even come out. They turned off the breaker and told us that we couldn't turn on our electricity because it was a fire hazard. Code compliance gave him 48 hours to get a certified electrician out to the place. That never happened. Five days later he sent out an electrician. He refused service which is proven on the work order stating he didn't have the funds. As months passed, the water heater leaked more and more into the kitchen causing us to fall in the kitchen many times. We would slush in the kitchen as if the floor had become one big outdoor puddle. The smell was ridiculous and was getting worse. We finally sent a certified letter to the landlord telling him that the living conditions were not o.k. and that we couldn't take it. We were getting bloody noses and sinus issues from such a strong smell of mold. We sent the letter letting him know our move out date and when we could conduct the walk through. He refused to sign for the package. We then start receiving death threats and horrible text messages at all hours of the night. He told us he would poison our dogs. That we would come home one day and be locked out. That he had spent our security and so on. Yesterday, he comes to our condo we leased in a contract for one year and served us eviction papers with 7 police officers. This made it seem as though to neighbors that I had not been paying rent or that I was a horrible person. Thank goodness the president of the condo association was there to be an advocate on my side. He owes the condo association thousands. The people below my condo are pissed because the leak has gone into their condo which they own! And the lady is 8months pregnant. The leak is now being taken care of the association because the landlorn failed to. Now we half our wall missing in the bedroom which we can't use, drywall all over our bed and floor, black toxic mold covering the walls, and now we are getting illegally evicted. On the eviction notice he stated he was evicting me because of threatening his dog as well as himself?? Yet, admitted to the officers that he just lost his job and couldn't afford the repairs and furthermore, had no documentation of threats ever made by myself. We want our security back, this months rent back, and other monies owed to us for living in such filth. We tried to break the lease and yet we get evicted. This all seems unfair. We have contacted an attorney however, what are our chances of winning? We live in Miami Florida! Please help! Help from attorneys or lawyers is greatly appreciated as well!!!
Take home cubicle decorations? I just started a new job at a call center. We don't have assigned cubicles and are a twenty four hour facility. I was told I can decorate my cubicle but I can't leave anything and it cant be permanant. I either have to take it home or put it in my locker. My coach said he'd lock it up for me n his filing cabinet. I was thinking of maybe just taking a beach type large bag filled with decorations. What are some good ideas for that? Also I can not have any type of recording device or sound. No pen paper cell phone none of tha for security reasons. Also does anyone know of any fun things that are reasonably noise less that I could do with my coworkers or alone? I thought about puzzles so far maybe a small free weight or those little kids plastic golf sets or the paddle ball type things I had as a child where the pad was Velcro and fit on your hand with a soft cloth ball, any more ideas? Sorry so long and thanks so much in advance!!
Will a ghost hurt you? Until yesterday i didnt believe in ghosts... Im doing security, watching a forclosed house that still has items in it. Last night as i was sitting in my car watching it i saw a black figure appear and disappear. Then i saw a white reflection on my driver side window and it disappeared when i saw it. I was in the house last night also, just lookibg around. I was in the empty kitchen and the area by the sink made a loud thumping and banging noise until i left the house. Today the person who did the day watch was using the bathroom and she said the medicone cabinet would open and shut by it self. Doors she locked would later be unlocked. Im convinced this house is haunted. Can ghosts hurt people?
Is it possible to become a worse shot? Hello, I am a 26yo Marine Corps infantry veteran, recent college graduate, and soon to be newly-wed. While I was in the USMC I had qualified both rifle and pistol expert. When I got out I moved to VA and purchased a .45(ACP) caliber pistol while in college, and continued to go to the range with it at least once or twice a month. As of graduation I plan to move back to my home state of IL, right outside of Chicago with my soon-to-be wife for a job opportunity. Now I am planning on purchasing a Mossberg 500 Field/Security combo for hunting and home defense in IL, mainly to give off the impression of a happy household. I also do not wish to register my pistol as VA has no registration laws, but IL does. While my fiance is generally not controlling, nor would she try to control me in this matter, I am sure she would have a little more peace of mind(especially if we have children in the future) with a legal shotgun in the gun cabinet, as opposed to an unregistered handgun. My plan is to lock my pistol up in its case and another lock box, and store it somewhere very hidden in our residence for a possible but not probable worst case scenario, and not for home defense. As it will be unregistered, I plan on only taking it out for immediate cleaning. My question is if say in 10 years hurricane Katrina x1000 comes through and ravages the country or something of that nature, registered guns are temporarily confiscated by authorities, and I have a need to use my pistol again, will my proficiency with this firearm have decreased to such a point that it is futile to even have it? Or will I be out of practice, but able to still apply the fundamentals of marksmanship(Sight alignment-sight picture, recoil management, etc)? I guess what I am asking as I learned to shoot in the Marines, and haven't taken time of since, is whether or not marksmanship is a sustainable skill without practice. My fiance is fine with the idea of hiding the pistol, obviously it would not be used in home defense as using an unregistered firearm, regardless of the circumstances would make me subject to various criminal charges. To Michael; I grew up in Southern IL, I was well aware of the FOID card, but was under the impression that guns must be registered. Now granted I haven't lived there for going on 8 years, maybe its like MD and other states De-Facto registration(required for guns sold from state dealers, but not for private citizens). Thanks for that info. As for the lockbox, that is the idea, however if I have children I think it best to still keep that hidden away real well. As a child(namely 11-13/14) I had a nack for getting into things I shouldn't, my old mans playboy collection, liquor cabinet, etc... All locked up very well, some hidden, but I knew they existed. Combine that with my then rebellious streak, had I know about my dad handguns, I would have most likely looked for it, found it, played whiteboy wannabe gangsta(no racism intended), and gotten myself in a mess of trouble. So keeping it very hidden and very secret is also part of the plan. Thank you for your answer, it was very helpful. I can't quite figure out how to choose a "best answer" lol, sorry Michael
Is this good!? Book Question? I would assume I was losing my mind because something that should be dead because the amount of damage it appears to have cannot possible be walking, really limping, up the steps of my porch. It looks like my neighbor but the lack of a complete side of her face tells me this is nothing more than a wild ass nightmare. Curled lip with patches of hair hanging down as if it had been torn out but the blood has matted it to her cheek and shoulder. What once was beautiful eyes are now gorged out holes with bite marks here and there. “Is that-“ “Yes, a zombie” Jordan answered. I then recognized some of my other students in the crowd. Abby Transom, Katie Reps, and I made out my math teacher. Such a shame, my adult romance ended with a sticking infection. The good thing is that I survived, and then another person came into mind. Jake. Was he okay? Did he turn as well? I needed to found out. Now. “Jordan, we need to go” Jordan gasped and shook his head. “Are you kidding? Liam, there are maybe thousands out there!” “Are there any in the house?” Jordan shook his head again and got up. “No, I barricaded the door” I grabbed my sword from the nearest shelf; my dad gave me this when I turned ten. I was trained in using it; you never know when you might need to use it. I imagined I would need it for a robber but a zombie apocalypse will do. “What are you going to use that for!?” Jordan asked. “If any do get in I’m prepared” “What about me?” “My dad has guns in the attic” I unlocked the door and opened it. I walked out and looked around and Jordan followed. “Ok Jordan, Go into my dad’s room and grab the duffle bag in the closet” “I’m not going anywhere alone” “Jordan, its right down the hall” “How about I get the guns and you get the duffle bag” Jordan unlocked the attic door and looked up the stairs. “On second though you can get the guns” Jordan ran down the hall. I started up the stairs, sword in hand ready to use. To be honest I was terrified, but there was nothing here before, but I never liked attics. I got up the attic, I looked around. I placed my hand on a wall and tried to feel for the light switch. I found the light switch and flicked it up. The whole room was full of weapons, guns, swords and other stuff I had no clue what they were. Wow my dad had a hobby of collecting weapon, or could he be smuggling them. I turned around to see a glass cabinet full of guns. I walked over and was disappointed to see a lock on it. What would happen if I break it, was my dad smart enough to put an alarm in it? I picked up a piece of wood and gripped it tightly. I closed my eyes and swung. I heard glass break, I opened my eyes and saw glass everywhere. I reached inside but my arm was caught by this force. “Name?” A voice echoed through the room. Blades appeared around my hand. My dad had a security system? This high-tech? “Name?” “Liam?” The blades disappeared and the force was gone. “Welcome master, I am Star-Dash” The voice said. “What?” I looked around the room to see if someone was there, no one. “Please let me test you blood to see if you are not infected” A needle appeared in the cabinet. “What?”After giving up on an explanation I placed my hand on the arm rest and closed my eyes. “Do it already” “Done master” I opened my eyes and the needle was gone but a vial of my blood was there. “No infection found, you are a special one master” “Special?” “You are immune; your immunity gives you the ability to used very advanced martial arts” “Immune?” I asked. “Yes master, you are immune” I reached for the gun on the far right of the cabinet. “Good to know, Jordan!” After five minutes of waiting Jordan appeared from the stairs. Jordan looked around shocked with all the weapons around. He dusted off a crate and sat on it. “What the hell?” “Master? Is this an intruder?” “No, friend” “Liam why is-“ There came a loud crash from downstairs, the barricade. They broke through. “Master the infected have broken through our defenses, closing the attic door and reinforcing the door” The voice answered. Jordan and I watched the door shut and a sheet of metal covered the door. There were then footsteps outside the door. Fast, slow, and loud. Then banging, then screaming. “Star, how long will the door last!?” I asked. “The door is meant for protection, nothing can destroy it” Star answered. “Liam, we have a problem,” Jordan said. “I left the duffle bag down in the kitchen” “Dang, we need that bag” “Master, may I deploy robotic guards?” “Yes, do that!” Jordan answered. Jordan was snuggled up in a corner hugging an auto rifle.

if your kids are throwing an insane party that's been going on for days, what would you do? say you were like a billionaire, you worked extremely hard to the point that you had heart conditions and such and the doctor said for you to get away well you leave your kids because they're responsible, you know the second you leave that they'll start planning a party what with all the awesome cars, massive house and grounds, booze, pool and other awesome stuff, in fact you bought the house for that reason, so you and your kids could throw awesome parties but when you get back you see that it's still going on and it's not what you expected, kids are baked out of their minds, the EMS passed you on the way in, cops just left, your security guard and maids have been drugged, they broke into your gun cabinet, kids are having sex everywhere, the house it totally destroyed, you find your kids in your office with the doors locked, sitting at your conference table smoking your cigars with their friends and eating sushi off of a naked woman while having a deeply philosophical debate what would you think and do?

what could be going on in this girls life that she would do such a thing? I had some friends over for a dinner party last weekend. It was a couple that I had known for several years who came in from New England, "Linda" and "Joe" my neighbor's from across the street "Karen" and "Pete" and their daughter "Jane". Jane is only 15 but she's a little trouble maker and I've had several problems with her, she wasn't even allowed at my house but I okayed it this time because she was grounded and her parents didn't want to leave her at home alone. In the past this girl has lied to me, she stole alcohol from my house, she teased my foster-son because his mother died of cancer, and she broke into my yard while I was away and used my pool (I found out through security cam video) This girl is bad news. Last weekend she took it too far and she destroyed my friendship with her parents. Here is what happened: I have a deck in front of my house use it to relax on we have outdoor furniture and a fireplace. Jane was sitting near the fire along with her parents, and my friend Joe. His wife, Linda was helping me in the kitchen. My husband and foster son were on the back deck BBQing. At some point Karen and Pete come inside to help set the table leaving Jane and Joe outside on the deck, alone. About 5 minutes later Joe comes inside and we start talking about how it was still 70F outside where I live (California) and it's raining and cold where he was living. Everything seemed fine until Jane comes in the house, she asks her mother if she could have a sip of her wine and Linda says "that's a no-no in my house, i'm a social worker you know...and i've seen kids kill themselves thinking they could drink." I added "sorry no underage drinking in my house" and Karen than added "you heard the women!" pissed she left the room. Later all the adults were in the dining room (dinner wasn't quite ready) and my fosterson and Jane were sitting in the living room where we have a full bar (it's usually locked but since we had guests over and there is a trap door under the bar into the wine cellar we had it open) My foster son comes into the dinning room and says "umm Jane's getting into the bar" Karen and I come out and Jane is trying to open the liquor cabinet in the bar, and a scene ensued. Jane now crying, says she just wanted to "drowse" her sorrows because she was "molested by that creepy guy" ( she was trying to get out of being grounded for another 4 weeks) when her parents asked her to explain she said that when they left her out on the deck with joe that he walked up to her and showed her his penis told her "you better suck it and you better not tell" and than shoved himself in her mouth. As you can imagine Joe was freaked out he just keeped saying "never happend, never happend I just asked her how she was doing in school, id never do that." of coarse her parents took her side and were about to call the police when I told them to hold on let's all sit down for a sec before the police are called and talk about this, but no they just screamed at me and said I was enabling a child molester and that I should be ashamed they left and the police were called. Linda and Joe didn't leave my home since the police were coming. While we were waiting for the police my foster-son said "why don't we just review the security cameras like we did when the brat broke into our pool" so I did and the camera showed Joe sitting about 4 feet away from Jane, than it showed Jane talking to Joe, the audio was really hard to understand but this is what we could make out: Jane: do you like the snow? Joe: Not as much as when I was a child Jane: I like the snow Joe: do you have snow around her? Jane: not that kind of snow, the kind that goes up your nose (laughing) <silence for about 30secs> Joe: how are you doing in school are you a good student? Jane: <says something but we can't make it out> Joe : Oh, I see. I better go back inside and sit with the wife Joe than walks away the opposite direction of Jane at no point did he come close enough to Jane to shake her hand let alone what she was claiming. The police asked Janes parents to come back over to see the video themselves, they did and they said sorry to all of us (but I don't think I will be talking to them again) They just made excuses for her saying that "She has a learning disability and it causes her to have a low self esteem and act out." when I asked what her learning disability is they said "dyslexia" I think it's something else because there has to be some other cause for her inexcusable behavior. Sorry I know it's a long one but thanks for the advice.
Errr... should I be worried? (trashed a classroom)? Ok so yesterday the English classroom was open and me and my friends went inside (we had that class) and my friends were like lets trash the place and we started flipping desks and we ripped posters and we drew boobs on the chalk board and i tipped the teachers desk (omg, it made so much noise and the papers went everywhere) and I kicked a filing cabinet and dented it. then i was dancing on a table and my friends took pictures. this girl was like HOLY CRAP THE TEACHERS'ZZ COMING! I grabbed the teachers chair and i threw it and I left the classroom. the teacher was so close to the class... then i realized I left MY PURSE INSIDE THE CLASS!! so I ran inside and I left and i turned off the lights and locked the door. i ran around the corner super quick and i said hi to the teacher. i walked to the door with her. we went in together and when she saw the class she screamed and she started crying and i was acting like i didnt know wtf was going on and the teacher was crying and she threw something and i paniced and i left. then today the teacher was like she watched the security camera but she couldnt understand what was happening (how can u not understand what is happening in a security tape?) and she said the cops'zz are gonna come and there gonna figure out who did it and there gone get arrested and raped? should I be worried?
I am writing a Descriptive Essay and would like some input and corrections before I turn this essay in ? My Bedroom Do you ever wonder why certain places mean so much to certain people? When I think of my bedroom, I realize why some people are touchy about who goes in their rooms or who has been touching things in their home, it is because those things are important to them and may have some meaning. Places like my bedroom are places where we can relax and be comfortable and I think that is why it is important to people, because we can be ourselves and feel comfortable,we can also just sit down and rest our bones and relax. Another important reason is we can go there when we want privacy,we can just shut our door, maybe even lock it, and tell everyone in our household not to bother us. Also our rooms hold most of our personal belongings and those things are important to us and we do not want anyone else to touch them or in some cases go near them. Bedrooms are a place where we can be comfortable and we can sit back and relax. When Whether we are tired or not, feeling the best or not, we can go to our room, shut our door, and lay down and relax. Maybe even turn on some music or read a book or magazine. My bed is where I like to retreat to when I want to relax. I have a queen size sleigh bed with six pillows and my favorite comforter. It is a horse comforter,I know it is childish but my mother made it for me. And of course, my teddy bear, that a friend gave me for Christmas, sits on my bed and keeps me company. A lot of times I just lay down and close my eyes and daydream about places I'd like to see or think about things that make me happy. One thing we should not do is think about things we need to get done or anything that makes us feel stressed because then we'll never feel relaxed. I usually try to stay away from these sort of thoughts and it usually works out well. The reason my bedroom is so important to me is because my room holds all of my personal belongings, which are very important to me. Also my room is a comfortable place to study or just to relax. I can also have privacy whenever I want it by resorting to my room, this may be hard for some people if they share a room. Whenever my mom is nagging at me or when I'm stressed out with school or work, I like to go into my room and just be myself. All my belongings in my room surround me and make me realize everything is going to be all right. It gives me a sense of security. The way my room is set up makes it kind of cluttered, but that is the way I like it and I don't care what anyone says. As you first come into my room, to the left is my dresser. My dresser is full of things like perfume, jewelry, hair ties, my television and just a bunch of junk, mostly things that come out of my pockets at the end of the day. The dresser itself is brown with nine drawers, sets of three side by side. Diagonally across from that is my computer desk which holds all of homework and my computer, the cabinet is white with wooden shelves. Next to my bed which is in the middle of the room is my side table which holds my alarm clock and pictures and just odds and ends. Everything is worth keeping. I believe that other people feel the same way about their rooms and homes, it gives people a sense of security in a way that you can control what goes in your room and who goes in your room. It sort of gives people power which may mean a lot to some people. My room holds almost all of my personal belongings, which I think almost everybody's rooms do. I am sort of protective of the things in my room because a lot of my belongings have sentimental value. My most treasured items are my trophys from when i used to show horses, which are placed neatly in my closet. I have about fifteen trophies and if anything would ever happen to those trophies I would be extremely upset and very furious. Nobody, except myself, is allowed to touch them, not even my mother. I'm sort of a pack rat so I keep everything from old clothes to my childhood stuffed animals which are all neatly sitting on my hope chest in my room. My hope chest is filled with things I will need in the future like towels, cooking utensils, blankets, old picture frames and other little things, these things mean a lot to me because a lot of these objects belonged to my late grandmother and I am honored to own them. I treasure all my belongings and do not like other people to move or to borrow without asking and I think that a lot of people feel the same way. When someone touches our things we get upset and I think in a way we are sort of honoring our possessions. What my point is that everybody has something or some place that is important to them and has meaning and a lot of times it is people's bedrooms and homes because it belongs to us and we cherish these places. Bedrooms are a place of comfort and in some cases a sense of security. It is a place of privacy when we need to be alone or just to sit down and take a load off. We can just be ourselves. So the next t
I suspect my nephew or his Friends are stealing my mom's liquor? My mom has had three full bottles of rye go missing from a small nondescript little cabinet in the kitchen. There's lot of furniture it the house, in fact I didn't even know that that's where she kept the booze. She told me that the only person that seen her open the cabinet was my nephew. My nephew is a good kid all around (17 years old), but I don't trust his friends. The problem is that my mom hides the key to the house under the floor mat or under a flowerpot. I've suggested to them to simply go to Walmart and get an extra key cut for $5. Alternately I suggested changing the lock altogether in case duplicate keys were made up. So far it seems that booze is the only thing swiped, but what if they move on to jewellery of antiques or something? I've actually thought of spiking the booze with ipecac (this is what you buy when you think your child has swallowed poison....it makes you puke your guts out)...but I'd rather not go that route. How should we approach this? My mom would like to question my nephew but is afraid it will drive him away from her and he'll never speak to her again? I'm thinking of a low cost security cam but I'd rather not turn the place into fort knox. Any suggestions?
surveys did you know there are 13 things your burglar will not tell you? 1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator. 2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier. 3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste, and taste means there are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have. 4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it. 5. If it snows while you're out of town, get a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway. 6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don't let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it's set. That makes it too easy. 7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom - and your jewelry. It's not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too. 8. It's raining, you're fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door - understandable. But understand this: I don't take a day off because of bad weather. 9. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don't take me up on it.) 10. Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet. 11. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms. 12. You're right: I won't have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me. 13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system . If you're reluctant to leave your TV on while you're out of town, you can buy a $35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real television.
How can I get my stubborn dad and possibly suicidal mom to go to counseling? The other day my mom said that somedays she's so depressed that she doesn't feel like living. My dad, Mr. Security Gaurd, didn't even notice. It would probably help if he shut up and listened to her instead of talking so much. He is a musician, and she is an artist. We don't have a lot of space in the house, and before my dad had a pile in the back half of the living room of music equipment. My mom has a little cabinet tucked away in a corner. She doesn't have the space to paint. I'm trying to organize the living room, but my dad doesn't deal with change well. He's just going to throw everything in the garage and lock it. I can organize it and make an art/music/sewing studio so everyone can be happy, but he'd rather be miserable. When he talks, he talks for 15-30 minutes about the subject and his personal experience in it. It isn't even like he's sharing information, he's showing off. In those 30 minutes, noone can even get a word in. He won't go to counselling. He thinks mom should go to the doctor and get antidepressants. I think she needs someone to listen to her like a counsellor because he can't shut up long enough. How can I convince him to go to counselling with her? He's the most stubborn man in the world. It makes me sick that he thinks she should go to the doctor and get antidepressants than to actually take care of the underlying problem. p.s. I'm 17

How to keep belongings safe at work? I have a serious lack of faith in the security of lockers. Today my combination lock at work wouldn't open so I told my manager, and he whipped out a lock cutter out of an unlocked cabinet right next to the lockers and busted that thing off in ten seconds! I used to only bring my license to work, but that was seriously inconvenient. I got sick of that so I would lock my purse in my car, but that certainly didn't seem safe for hours on end. My job is in a high theft area, and I'm wondering if ther'es any certain kind of lock that's very safe or any better way to secure my belongings while at work. Thanks.
