Has anyone installed a Pet Safe thru-wall doggie door?
Please let me know if it is difficult or simple. The instructions say "easy installation". I have my doubts after looking at the directions, and would appreciate any helpful tips.

- I have a Pet-Safe, originally bought the through wall model (9+ years ago) looked at it, then took it back and got the less expensive through door model. I found by framing a hole in the wall (between the studs) at the size of the door frames, and trimming inside and out like a window (imagine a window with no glass part), and simply attaching the pet door flapping part to the exterior frame and the frame for the close-off panel (for vacation security)(discarded the other parts). A very attractive way to complete the project. This way the interior is wood-work that matches the room, and none of the plasticy stuff PetSafe provides. All in all I think it was cheaper, but then I had the luxury of my know-how and eqpt. Let me know if you want step x steps for this project. After 8+ years of Aussies tear-assing in and out, I had to replace the rubber flap bit. Was very happy to find it was available separately (and about half the money of the entire kit I thought I was going to have to purchase). Its been in place and working through New England winters. Hope this helps . . . .
- I can't add any "how-to" comments to Jeffery J's reply, he's pretty much on the money. The only alternative that I might suggest is to install it in an existing door (if you have one available at the location you want the Pet door installed). There are pet doors designed for door type installation, the main thing to be careful with is the actual cutting of the opening (a cutting template is provided by the manufacturer). This is what I did to get our 2 huge cats access to the garage, where their litter box and food is kept.
