Which way should my ceiling fan turn if I have a vaulted/cathedral ceiling?

I have a very high vaulted ceiling. The ceiling is like that in the living room and kitchen...which is basically one big room. In the kitchen there is a ceiling fan. With it being winter in here Nebraska I want to keep as much heat in the house as possible! I know heat rises, so should I have my ceiling fan going clockwise or counter clock wise? Or should I leave it off?? Please help!

  1. In the summer it should go counter clockwise, in the winter it should turn clockwise, but we never turn our fans on to circulate the heat.
  2. run it so it will blow down, in winter, pull up in summer
  3. Off, but that was an obvious answer....
  4. Which ever way makes it push the air back down!!!!
  5. I know nothing about this but if you go to this website you can ask them anything about ceiling fans... go here: http://www.hansenwholesale.com/answers.asp?currPage=2&PerPage=30&ProdType=CFFM Hope this helps :)
