How long on average will a concrete burial vault last underground?
How many years will a concrete burial vault last and what would the condition of the casket be in after approx 25 yrs? just curious after visiting family. Thank you. Also, how would a grave a few feet away from a large tree be affected from the roots, etc.

- i think your answer would lie with a few simple questions, such as type of soil, climate of area, how close is the vault to a water source. this is not an easy question to answer. by the way, bodies buried in the ground last longer in original state providing all elements are in a constant state. if weather and climate varies to large degrees? time is tight but the bodies aren't.
- Long enough for people to forget who you were...
- In addition to variations in climate, there are many different types of concrete. Some have admixtures to make it less porous, others have little nylon fibers to increase the tensile strength. For the answer, you'd have to go to a mortician and ask what type of concrete he uses.
- The answer to that can only be determined by what type of vault is is, does it have a polystyrene liner or is plain concrete? A concrete vault (concrete is a porous material) will withstand some years, but none the less be affected by the water and the soil. With that being said, same goes for the casket, if the vault had a plastic liner, the casket is going to last much longer, in a plain concrete vault, the integrity of the casket will be compromised within months.
