How many "Gospels" are held under lock and key in the vatican vaults?

Why are they hidden away? Are they differrent to the ones in the current version of the Buy Bull? How many of the stories in them are copied from earlier pagan religions? Aah! Critical Thinker, you have removed the scales from my eyes as to why the priest at my primary school always went behind a screen for confession when he knew who we were anyway. So it WASN'T God forgiving me? Thank you! I have seen the light, glory be!!!

  1. There are no written Gospels in heaven, brother. We won't need words. So much for choice, eh??
  2. Whatever the "Vatican" claims to have, is worthless anyway. The Bible is the Word of God, the 66 Books, and we have the Word of God in full. There are no "secret books" anywhere. And the "Vatican" is false. Catholicism is not Christianity.
  3. Christianity has always been about picking and choosing. Ask any non-fundamentalist Christian why they believe some parts of the Bible as fact and other parts as metaphors.
  4. The Vatican Underground aka The chamber of lies, holds highly questionable documents that would destroy Christianity
  5. To show them would be the equivalent of pulling the curtain back on OZ only to see the little fat man.
  6. Lots and lots and lots. And they are all as much fairy tales as the ones that are currently in the 'bible' are.
  7. OMG!!! Are you suggesting that Catholics are manipulating information for political power and financial gain? I never would have suspected...

  9. It makes no difference how many books were written by men, or even supposedly inspired by God, only the ones that are included in the Bible are genuine.
  10. I don't know how many but they are probably the ones that didn't persecute enough people to satisfy the church's lust for power and control...so therefore they can't ever be seen.
  11. Fragments of the old Gnostic gospels are being found on a regular basis. I've read quite a few of them. They're available online, on a number of different sites. All that is necessary to read them is for me to type ''gnosis,'' ''Gnostic,'' or ''Nag Hammadi'' in my search engine. The same goes for the Apocryphal New Testament (which includes the Gospel of the Ebionites, the Gospel of the Hebrews, the Gospel of the Egyptians, etc). If the Vatican were keeping these books secret, and they're clever enough to secretly scheme up one of the world's most popular religions and continue to keep it under wraps, would you honestly expect us to know what they have? Those who oppose Christianity are free to present such ideas, but in doing so, they become no less of a conspiracy theorist than the rapture-happy fundamentalists they seem to enjoy mocking on this site.
  12. That guy Drew has it right. The gnostic gospels include the books of Mary, Timothy and Stephen (among others). They were rejected by the Council of Nicea in 325AD. If you want to catch the church hiding things, read up on the Dead Sea Scrolls. How can that much information from the time of Christ not mention Christ?
  13. WoW! You crawled out on a breaking branch, Kudos to your courage. I was a cradle born catholic, Left the church for the last time about nine years ago, before the scandal. If not for my faith in the words of Jesus, life here would make no sense to me. Even If I do not always understand the ways of God. I take the good and leave the bad, as I see it. I believe faith is a personal experience no matter who you are, You don't see it until you see it. I bash no church, as there is good and bad in all things, I just do not have to agree, We were "lucky" for Martin Luther and the like to open other doors, as well Joseph Cambell he too left the Catholic church, Blessings Be...................

  15. I understand why people feel the need to believe in a bible....I think even if you had indisputable proof that the contents are selective and flawed and showed that proof to believers, they would reject the evidence and continue to believe as they always have...because otherwise their whole world would collapse around them.
  16. TD is right. There are many gospels that were left out. Christianity was very different in the beginning, practiced in many forms, there were those who followed their Judaism, then Paul came along and started his ruckus. Some of the Gnostic Gospels are frankly silly, but some have the real ring of truth. The Gospel of Thomas is intriguing. If you've never read Joseph Campbell, I highly recommend him. He knew Myth and why it is important.
