Why do cats like confined spaces so much?
Why is it in a perfectly safe and loving home , my cat likes finding the most confined smallest place to stick hisself in? Like under the couch , inside the box spring of our bed , in between the fridge and wall just to name a few.

- Cats are strange - mine have been known to fight over ownership of a cardboard box or even a carrier bag.
- cause they feel safe and secure
- Its our instinct. We feel like predators cannot get us in small places. We think no one else can fit in there to get us. Kinda like we cover our poop. So predators cannot track us
- they the feel of that "safety" close in a tiny spot means no one can see him and he is cuddled. that why many cat beds are "hidden" or snuggled for them.
- its just natural instinct. cats are like that, its also kinda like, well my guess is like, its security, its like how you cover yourself with a blanket when you go to bed even tho its perfectly warm in your house. cats just like being hidden like that in confined spaces, its their nature. its just like how they burry their poo poo.:D
- It's the nature of the beast. All cats still like to feel like they are wild so they'll hide in confined spaces to feel safe but also sometimes to be able to stalk their "prey" which can be your feet, or their toy, or another pet. I have two very dominant females (both are hunters and stalkers) and they are constantly lying in wait for each other. But I think mostly that cats just like their alone time. After they get what they feel is their enough required attention, they like going off somewhere quiet and inconspicuous and just chill out.
- it makes them feel protected..like a cave
- one of my two cats does the same thing, sometimes i find her in the bottom of the clothes hamper and they too LOVE little shoe boxes or cardboard boxes. She also likes to hide between the curtains when i'm showering lol
- Remember that your house is like a whole world to your small cat. Just like you escape from the world into the safe walls of your home, a cat escapes the world in the house to its own little abode. It needs a small space where it knows people won't bother it. Plus, it is in a cat's nature to find a comfortable, small space to hide in, in case it needs to make a place for babies the day it gets pregnant, and other reasons that are similar to why you yourself find comfort in your home.
