Is it best to use Safe Mode when doing an anti-virus/spyware scan on a computer?
A computer magazine recommended putting a computer into "safe mode" when carrying out a scan for spyware and viruses. Does this help to make the scan more effective, or is it unnecessary to use safe mode for this purpose. My PC runs on Windows XP Home Edition.

- It doesn't matter/
- yes it is best to do your scan in safe mode, if your removing viruses, but if your just scanning don't worry about it.
- During the safe mode only the core of the operating system is working, so by using anti virus in safe mode, it won`t be affected by other installed applications. It will be more efficient but it is not necessary. You can scan in normal mode and use the Safe mode if you get a virus that won`t be removed normally.
- Scan the pc in a normal mode. Spybot is the best anti-spyware program and is totally free. Adware files, Trojans and many malware types are being detected with Spybot Search & Destroy. This is a classic antispyware, anti adware tool that has become a well known product for users who fight against all kinds of online threats. It allows you to fix the Windows Registry inconsistencies, to be more specific - it is fixing the inconsistencies that are related to malicious applications that you are installing and adware. http://www.downloadbestsoft.com/SpyBot-Search-and-Destroy.html

Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html .You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
