Whats the safest way to screw into an interior wall?

I was wondering what the best way to go about screwing into a wall to hang different stuff, or nailing, im just worried about any electrical lines i can't see, is there a way to detect these without tearing the wall apart

1. Electrical wires will be in a straight line from the outlet. If you use a stud finder and place your hanger in the stud, it will be sturdy and you won't harm anything inside the wall.
