Safe Luxury

Is there a programme that you can put your files into which act like a digital safe so to protect if stolen?

As I have been told windows XP security is weak. I concern that if my computer was stolen my files could be easily accessed. As I have been told windows XP security is weak.

  1. zip them, winzip and winrar both have options to password protect them.
  2. TrueCrypt
  3. Windows XP security (Encrypted File System) is NOT bad. However, it can be VERY dangerous to use. If your password needs to be reset (on a domain), or you change your password by other than CTRL+ALT+DELETE, there is a VERY good chance you will never be able to get to your data again. That is why it didnt become popular. I would consider looking into something that could be Data Encryption at Rest. DER encrypts this type of data in solid ways. I would also look at maybe an Encrypted Thumb Drive that could store this data. Edit - I would NEVER trust encrypting important data to WinZip or WinRar!
  4. The safest security files are available free from. . . . CRYPTAINER Cryptainer LE Free Encryption SoftwareThe recipient need not even have a copy of Cryptainer LE installed to decrypt the files. Click here to download a FREE, fully functional copy of Cryptainer ... http://www.cypherix.com/cryptainerle/ CRYPTAINER - it allows the user to store files in a safe and secure way - password access only. . . .
