What's the average price for a home security system? What brand do you like? (info provided)?

Hello, My husband and I are looking at buying our first home. Our town is actually somewhat segregated (financially, not racially). There's the A section of town, with all the reeeeeally expensive houses. The B section of town, with more "family" homes that are <20 yrs old. The C section of town, where there are family homes, but they're all from the 1950's- 1970's. And then the D part of town which is pretty ghetto and dangerous. All of the houses in our price range are in the C part of town (1950's- 70's homes). Most of the have been/are being remodeled to make the neighborhoods more appealing to new buyers. But some of these houses are kind of close to downtown, which scares me to death. I know someone could break into any house, anywhere, but we're currently renting an apartment in the nicer part of town and I "feel" really safe there. All of the houses we've been looking at buying are 900- 1,100 sq ft. I know it's tiny, but it's our first house, so it's not supposed to be a mansion. We don't need a system that will dial 911 for us or anything like that. But it would be nice to have a loud siren in the case of a perimeter breech. We can call 911 on our own.... =) Given that information, which home security system would be the best? Thanks!

  1. go on line you can find a variety of them on line and you would be able to pick and choose.
  2. google: perimeter security systems,, as well as, wireless alarm systems. for do it your self ideas.
  3. Alarm One and Protection one both offer a system for free with a 2 year contract obligation and it is about $50 a month for the monitoring. It includes all first story windows, first story doors, one keypad, battery backup, on key bob with medical, fire, panic and remote activate, I think 2 motion detectors which you can trade for another door or window application and the siren can be heard 5-8 houses away. I also like the fact that you can set the system to give you a signal whenever a door or window is opened and it will tell you when you set the alarm they are not secured. In addition, you can set the system on max or delay. If you set it to max, it will immediately sound with a breach and automatically call police. If you set it to delay, you can enter and you have about 10 seconds to deactivate the system before it sounds the alarm and calls the police.
  4. Nearly 4 years ago I had someone try to break into my home. It was late at night and the I had the lights off, but I wasn't asleep. I heard a noise at the back door. I sneaked into the living room and flipped on the outside lights. It scared the burgler and I saw him high tail it out of there. . I then called several burglar alarm companies in my area and they all gave installation and monitoring quotes. I recommend you call a home securty installer to get your questions answered. http://www.homesecuritysystemratings.com Every companies offer a free installation special, so inquire about that too.
