  1. Unless you created the job yourself it's probably a scam, like the stupid survey and make money fast posts you'll undoubtedly see very soon They're all spammers trying to lure you into a referral scheme
  2. Try searching on www.wahm.com. Its a legitmate website/forum for people that work at home. Whatever you do, DO NOT pay for a "membership" and do not accept and cash checks or money orders. Those are the scams. :) Good luck
  3. I understand your concerns. There are indeed plenty of "opportunities" out there but it should be a red flag that your social security number isn't required and that taxes are not taken out. What this means is they have no intentions of paying you over $600 in a year. Hmmm, how much then can you expect for a year's worth of service if you were to work that long??? The reality is that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Now, you might be able to take on a home based job but you're going to have to interview and get hired by a legitimate employer who may need a virtual assistant because he/she doesn't have an office. Now, that's a viable position worth looking into with your phone and/or computer skills. You might be able to pick up money by writing or conducting research, but again for a legitimate employer and those kinds of jobs are hard to get... not because of your age but because everyone would want them. With gas prices, who WANTS to work in an office environment when they can work from home on flexible hours and not having to dress up, etc.??? The best suggestion that I have for you is to consider your own business working from home selling, setting appointments, typing, website design, answering phones, or whatever you can do that will help your clients make money, save money, save time and/or get peace of mind. Give up on the "too good to be true" offers and find your own value offering yourself and your features and benefits to clients or customers. Do what you love and love what you do and the money will follow. There are students, retirees, disabled people, and even teens looking for the same type of thing you are seeking. Set yourself out from the pack and be different. There are lots of things you can do from home but what you need to do is find clients/customers, not an employer. You've got some great skills.... use them to make money for yourself, not for someone else.
  4. you can try mystery shopping for apartment complexes. I did this for awhile and while it is not 'steady' money, it is a nice extra. I don't really have time to do this anymore and the jobs are sporadic. Still, I sometimes check in and get lucky that there is an opening in my area that I am available for. Your age will help as well, because you will be able to shop regular complexes as well as senior complexes. I can tell you that I did the most work for epmsonline.com Bestmark.com is another that I worked for on several occasions. There is a website, www.shadowshopper.com which costs 100 a year for access. I paid it and they had a TON of screened companies. That's how I got started. I meant to cancel before my first year was up and it automatically renewed. I only used them for my initial search. There is a national organization where you can become certified as well, silver and gold levels. Silver is not very expensive, gold runs somewhere around 100 as well and must be done in person, but they move the clinics around the country. There was one in my area right after I started, but I was unsure about mystery shopping at that point, so I passed. I wished that I would have done this because some companies do give preference to those who have achieved certifications. I hope this helps you some. Please be aware that no company will ask you to pay upfront in order to gain employment. Some mystery shopping companies do require you to make a small purchase in the process of doing your job, however they do reimburse you for that and even if they did not, you could always return the item. There are many scams out there, so be informed. Good luck to you. ============================================ Just wanted to add, that reliable companies can be researched, but it is not unusual for them to need your ssn (this was initially a concern to me). Any employer that is legit has to report your wages to the IRS. The companies that I worked for did not take out taxes and I had to keep track of that. Only EPMS had me do enough work to get the tax form from them for earning more than 600. Once again, good luck.
  5. I would be careful answering any work at home ads. To my knowledge they are all scams. Especially geared toward the older generation. Contact a local senior center and ask for suggestions. If you just want to work something to fill up your time, call a local church and see if you can do their bulletins from home.
  6. honestly, i don't think there are. are you unable to commute altogether? the reason i ask is because there is almost always call centers in areas and they love older people as they tend to be more punctual and dependable when it comes to part or full time work. i worked drs foster and smith call center. basically you just go there, sit in a cubicle and take calls. most of them are really flexible as far as hours and stuff. some of them are even willing to set you up at home to take calls instead of having to go in, but give you a direct connection to supervisors so if you have a question or need to transfer, you can. i would call any local call centers or telemarketer centers and see what they have as far as that goes. many times you can contact your local employment agencies and have them help you out with a job that suits your needs. i've looked into home based jobs a LOT and of the couple decent ones i found, they never ever guaranteed you any hours so you end up doing hours of promoting to get people interested in the services/products and you may not even end up getting the calls. it's tough out there. other easy jobs might be inspecting or small assembly, someplace where you can sit most of the time if that is a concern. i've done that as well, as i have bad knees. it's tedious and monotonous but what job isn't?!
