Is it safe to eat 6 months old food left in freezer?
I had purchased a box of Kirkland brand frozen ready made burgers (they're wrapped in plastic wrapping) and I remember having putting the whole box into freezer when I got home. Is it still safe to eat them, the 'Use by' date says July '08? (or should I throw out whatever's left in the box?) still not good if I microwave the burger until it's smoking hot? (i.e., hot enough that you'd want to let it cool before touching?)

- Throw it out. Buy a new box. a couple of dollars is worth not getting sick
- Safe = Most likely Smart = Not really Taste = Nasty
- Well, if it have a best before date, I wouldn't..
- Kind of old. Try one and see how it tastes. I usually do that with food. When in doubt, throw it out.
- personally id throw it out
- I'm gonna say no
- I would not eat them.
- The food is probably safe to eat but the taste will very likely be pretty nasty. It would be better just to chunk them and get some more.
- yh it is becuse itz been frozen but if was in da frig i advise u 2 throug it out but becuse it was in da freeza it is normally safe to eat
- Yes it is safe to eat it, the Use by or sell by date is usually for unfrozen foods. Once frozen it slows the bacteria growth and protects if longer than if left on the counter or in the refrigerator. I can see there are many wasteful people out there. If they are wrapped and frozen, they are perfectly OK to eat. They should also taste OK if they were not left open in the freezer. Beef products are usually OK under these situations for at least 6 months.
- This time the date on the package does not mean much. It goes by when you put them in the freezer. Do a web search on how long to freeze meat and look for ground beef and that will give you your answer.
- If they've been frozen, they're safe to eat... from a bacteria standpoint. But as someone said before, they may be nasty. And freezer burnt despite the wrapping.
- that's okay. I ate food left 2 years in the refrigerator and nothing bad happen to me. you are lucky, some parts of the world don't have refrigerators and they eat things straight from the land... I mean raw... e.g. grasshoppers, bees, mosquitoes, and eat meat with some nasty cooking like rats being skewered till crunchy, stuff like those. Have a good meal!
- Not worth the suffering later! may still be good , but taste will definitely be off!
- i think it ok, use by dates are generally guidelines, more to protect the distributor.. i often go past the use by date, especially frozen stuff but after you cook it, its your call
- I wouldn't safe or not, however, here's a freezer storage chart: Bacon and Sausage------------------------------1-2 months Casseroles------------------------------------------- 2-3 months Egg whites or egg substitutes----------------12 months Frozen Dinners and Entrees-------------------3-4 months Gravy, meat or poultry----------------------------2-3 months Ham, Hot dogs and lunchmeats---------------1-2 months meat, uncooked roasts---------------------------4-12 months uncooked steads or chops----------------------4-12 months meat, uncooked ground-------------------------- 3-4 months meat, cooked------------------------------------------ 2-3 months poultry, uncooked whole ------------------------ 12 months poultry, uncooked parts-------------------------- 9 months poultry, giblets--------------------------------------- 3-4 months poultry, cooked-------------------------------------- 4 months soups and stews------------------------------------ 2-3 months wild game, uncooked------------------------------ 8-12 months
- as long as air has not got in the bag and not over its expiration date then its good to eat!
- they will be perfectly fine. they were frozen...you can keep meats in freezer for year ... and its still within the year of date..yes few months from the sell by date but there shoudnt be anythign wrong with them as long as they were wraped and not freezer burn. i buy lots of frozen burgers and freez em...and yes some have been past date an were just fine...only sometimes they were a little freezer burned did i pitch em other wise they were just fine.
