Does anyone know any 'safe' home remedies for headaches?
I'm pregnant and still in my first trimester and would like to avoid use of OTC drugs during this trimester. Any home remedies that have worked for you?

- Drinking lots of water, back and neck massage. A small amount of something with caffiene in it for a migraine. Avoid chocolate, oranges and excess sugar.
- Cold compress over eyes and laying down in a dark room. If that didn't work then I would try a warm shower and let the water run over the back of my neck until the pain subsided. I get migraines and this is how I have dealt with them throughout this pregnancy. The dr did finally prescribe me something because they got to be so bad, but like you I didn't want to take anything if at all possible.
- The only thing that's really worked for me is drinking some tea (chamomile or something relaxing), taking a hot shower or bath, and going to sleep. If it's a chronic thing, then I'm not sure. Good luck!
- I have some mint scented stuff called Peace of Mind that I rub on my temples and on the back of my neck. My husband got it for me during my last pregnancy and it works wonders! He got it at a natural heath type of store in the mall called Origins.
- lots of water and a couple pieces of dark (or milk) chocolate should do the trick. Hydration helps expand the blood vessels in your head that constrict an cause pain, and the caffeine in chocolate really helps get rid of pain.
- Try a little bit of peppermint and lavender oil on a tissue and inhale, this you can carry around with you so its easy, and/or rub a little into your temples. I hope this helps!!!
- Here is a bunch of different home remedies I found online. I hope this helps! Soak a cotton ball in arrack (forehead width), and put it on the forehead, lie with it for 30 minutes in a dark room. Put onion slices on forehead and relax with your eyes closed for 20-30 minutes. Natural treatment for headache: drink a lot of salvia tea to help with the headache. Stir 1 teaspoon of lavender leaves to a cup of boiling water, cool and drink 3 times daily. . Drink a mixture of half a cup of strong black coffee with half a lemon juice. Pour hot water in bowl (as hot as possible), deep hands in the bowl and take out. Repeat 10 times. Cook willow peel in water, drain and drink, can also soak a cloth and put on the forehead. Home remedy for headache: boil honey and apple cider vinegar and inhale the steam. Slice a peeled potato; tie tight with a cloth on forehead for 20 minutes. Slice peeled cucumbers and put on forehead. Blanch 5-7 rosemary leaves in a boiling cup of water, add honey, wait 3 minutes and drink. Put 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in half a cup of water and drink up right away. Take 2 teaspoons of honey with each meal. Stir 1 tablespoon of honey in a very cold water cup and drink 1 cup every 3-4 hours. Drink fresh cabbage juice everyday to prevent headaches. Chinese medicine for headaches: Immerse 300gm mint leaves to half a liter of pure almonds oil. Pour into a bottle with a cork, shake and put in a dry chilly spot for 3 weeks. Strain and smear on the forehead and the neck when needed. Pour 1 cup of boiling water on 1 teaspoon of Marjoram, wait for 5-10 minutes and drink. Repeat 3 times daily. Herbal remedy for headache: drink one or 2 cup of peppermint tea to help with the headache. Squeeze one lemon, add one tablespoon of cinnamon, mix to get dough. Apply on forehead for half an hour.
- Tylenol :) My doctor gave me a list of meds I could take..this is pretty much the only thing I can take haha AVOID asprin..you can take the off brands of tylenol like Equate and stuff..just make sure no asprin is in it. I've had tons of bad headaches during this pregnancy. Best of luck to ya :)
- i dont know how well it works, but ive heard of tying a scarf slightly tight around your forehead, apparently pressure can help relieve the pain
- Burn some dried catnip. Being around the smoke of the burning catnip gets rid of your headache ASAP. Using peppermint oil and drawing a thin line on across your forehead works too. Just an FYI...Arrack is fermented mare's milk (yes, milk from a female horse). Very popular in Mongolia but I don't think you'll find it here.
