Need to open a safe. It's a home safe bought at walmart. I have key but have lost the combination. help
It's a heavy safe but I could carry it to a lock smith. I have had it long enoung I don't have the original papers. I put the combination away for safe keeping but did too good of a job and cannot find it. Drilling it out will cost about $100 and will ruin it. Any ideas would help. This is in the middle tennessee area.

- Depending on when you bought it, Some safes automatically come with a 3-5 yr warranty from the manufacture. Look on the safe and see if there is a number on it. I've done this before and did not need a receipt. Unfortunately I was about a month over my warranty.
- no way other than drilling, but you can do this on your own. Drill directly through 1 inch below the center of the combination wheel, or if there is a pin behind the wheel, pry off the facing and sledge the pin straight back. This usually does the trick.
- The only way to get it open (without taking it to a locksmith) unfortunately will ruin it. Lay it on it's back with the door facing skyward. Use a long pry bar and hammer, work the pry bar by the lock and it should pry open. The safes sold by Walmart are not really designed for maximum security, but more as a deterrent. Good luck.
- if you chose the combination, relax and imagine what your would have chosen. Part of your telephone number, date of birth, her date of birth, your social security number. Think what you would choose as a combination number today.
