What is the story behind each vault in Fallout 3?

It seems like each vault has a different story, you can never leave vault 101, 106 has some gas purple, 87 is flooded and whatnot, 92 has some sound playing through it, 108 had clones, and vault 112 had the loads of fun Tranquility Lane. What is up with each of these vaults? Sorry. I meant to ask, why are they like this. Is there a reason that they became what they are? Weren't they supposed to be fallout shelters?

  1. you answered your own question yes but hasn't it been 300 years since the nuke went off? i think if you read the fallout wiki its something about tests or something
  2. Yeah they were supposed to be Fall Out Shelters but once teh whole majority of the population they never set foot outside again and supposedly only the wealthy live in there.
  3. ''The vaults were never placed there to -help- anyone...'' http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault#Known_Vaults This shows a big fat grid of what some of the vaults were experimented with on, or what they were intended to do. The rest of the page also explains a lot, so go ahead and read from the top. This should be what you were looking for, and they are an interesting read... And make sure to click each vault name to read even more info about each vault. This should consume a lot of your time... So if you're ever bored, just get some knowledge on the Vault-Tec vaults. =P
  4. they were created as test stations. 101 was to test how people would react knowing they would never leave the vault. 87 was to see how people reacted to high levels of radiation. they were all tests i believe made by brauhn? not sure.
  5. The vaults were nuclear fallout shelters designed to protect the american population from the holocaust. The 'REAL' reason vaults were created because the american shadow goverment (enclave) wanted to study pre-selected segments of the population to see how they react to stresses and isolation and how succesfull they would be to re-colonize earth after they opened. Some examples of vault experiments off fallout 1,2,3 including expansions: - Vault 29 This vault was designed for no one over the age of 15 and parents were redirected to other vaults - Vault 68 & 69 68: 1000 men 1 women 69: 1000 women 1 man - Vault 34 Designed to have a huge armory with no lock open to all the residents of the vault. - Vault 12 Designed to study the effects of radiation this vault was designed to never close! The result were a vault city of ghouls. - Vault 0 A special vault designed to monitor other vaults. In total theres 122 vaults, these are just some of the vaults that have been introduced into the fallout series. As for the other vaults the game companies haven't created ideas for yet. They have great potencIal for expansions in Fallout 3. There you go! If you need help on Fallout 3 for Xbox360 my gamertag is: ChrisDRob
