How can you keep a cat safe in your home, away from the streets?
If you adopt a stray kitten, how can you train it so it doesn't wander off outside your property? One found his way into our garage. Still young. I would hate to see this creature get run down the street. What advice can other pet lovers here give? I'm not crazy about animal rights or anything. I'm just concerned because I know animals are helpless against speeding vehicles and uncaring people. I'd appreciate your advice.

- i've adopted plenty of stray cats.. usually once they get inside your home, they're grateful to be there.. my stray cats never want to leave the house! Sometimes they go in our backyard (supervised), but they never wander too far from the back door.
- close the door n d window man. AAAAAAHHHH!!!!!
- by closing your doors
- Electric Fence Taser Collar. Works every time. Kidding. :) It's a cat. I spell cat like this: Independence. Especially if it is a stray. It already knows it can go where it pleases. Your only bet is really to make it an indoor cat or let it roam where it may.
- Any reputable animal organization such as The Humane Society of the United States as well as ASPCA and any rescue that I'm familiar with all urge owners to bring cats indoors. It's a FACT that they live much longer lives inside. I don't think you will ever succeed in keeping a cat on your property. They have an instinct to hunt and are very curious. So if left outdoors unattended, I assure you that it's only a matter of time before you find it mangled in the road.
- You can't, which is why you need to keep your new kitty inside. Cats are smart, but they don't understand traffic or roads, nor can they be trusted to "stay on their own property." If you'd like to keep this stray, get her cleaned up and keep her indoors, where she cannot be hurt. Best of luck to you.
- If you adopt the kitten, make it an inside only cat. Provide toys and maybe a bird feeder outside a window for him to watch and enjoy. Have the cat spayed or neutered as soon as they are old enough.
- Dont let it out...
