Is this home in a safe neighborhood?

My family and I will be visiting New Orleans in a couple of weeks, and we are looking into a vacation rental on 2703 Baronne St. My cousin from Thibodaux checked out the place and reported the neighborhood is sketchy; however, previous guests gives the place excellent review. Can anyone tell me if this neighborhood is safe?

1. Its perfectly safe...in any case, due to a prior warning, you can keep your cell phone handy, if you venture out after dark...but apart from that, its perfectly safe place to be in.
2. it's not wonderful but it's close to Julia street and a lot of museums. if it's very expensive you could probably do better. if you have to park on the street that's a negative. I know a lot of people that live in better places that are very careful what they do after dark. what's more important to you being close to the city or staying in a nice neighborhood?
3. Uhh well it could be sketchy, but to tell you the truth, you will be PERFECTLY safe there. You could find better I am sure, but of course it would cost a little bit more money. The neighborhood like you said could be sketchy but not so much that you need to worry. I have driven through this neighborhood a couple of times and it seems like a perfectly great place, so have fun down here!
4. The neighborhood is OK but not great. Until fairly recently there were several public housing developments not far away that caused huge problems. Most of the developments were demolished in the 1990s and the others were emptied by Katrina. However, their legacy is not completely gone. If possible, make contact with one of the people who gave the reviews and ask them questions. Note that almost all serious violent crime in New Orleans happens within the illegal drug community (mainly crack cocaine) and the news media usually does NOT explain that when doing stories. All anyone needs to be safe in New Orleans is to use the same basic common sense required in every city in the world.
