  1. You need to call the cemetery where he will be buried. You will need a casket either way but some cemeteries require the vault as well. I am sorry to hear about your father.
  2. Most cemeteries require a vault. This helps the cemetery grounds crew keep the grounds in good condition. The casket will in time begin to break down. The vault will keep the earth above the casket from sinking. Depending on where you live, you will buy the vault from either the funeral home, or the cemetery. You will have options as to what type of vault you want. Some vaults are plain concrete, with very little protection from water and the elements entering. Other vaults have a sealing type device, and others are concrete on the outside, and copper or bronze on the inside (these are usually the most expensive) If you have to buy the vault outside of the cemetery, shop around. You don't have to buy the vault from the same funeral home the funeral is held at. The law allows you to buy from where ever you want to, and the cemetery must allow this. My condolences for your loss.
