How safe are bank boxes?

My trusty bank has posted a sign that its insurance doesn't cover contents of safety deposit boxes. Neither does home owner's insurance; unless the contents are scheduled, e.g. jewelry, art,collectibles, which carries a premium.So how safe are these boxes? Movie thieves crack and loot vaults, but what are the risks in real life?

1. They are safe. The bank will not insurance the contents because it doesn't know what the contents are. Only you do.
2. well that all depend how many times the bank gotten robbed my point is they are save the robber is only looking for cash and most robbers only try during the day because the alarm systems are high tech and it would take to long to open 50 safe deposit box's before the cops got there
3. They're pretty dang safe... Bank employees can't access your box because the bank doesn't keep a copy of the key they give you. It's dual control so it takes a banks key + your key. So I would trust them.
