Is It Ok To Uninstall Microsoft Office And Home Student 2007 From My Windows Laptop?

My laptop lags ALOT. My friend that's an expert on computers says that I have to delete some files and take off programs. So I went to Control Panel and looked at my programs from Biggest to Smallest size and the biggest is Microsoft Office And Home Student 2007. I want to uninstall it but I don't know if it's safe. Will my computer be harmed if I delete it? Will I be unable to do things on my laptop that I do now? Anything like that? Or will basically nothing happen if I delete it? Please help!
