Safe Luxury

if you can not afford to buy a security / safe box for your home?

How can I make my own security box ?? The safe box cost about $1000.00 for my need... I would rather spend much less and and valuables to store more in it... Protection from theft, how about construct a box in my closet with wood, then pour concrete inside to make a wall, then just put top with screw? Then put some books or whatever ??

  1. The safest place as far as earthquakes or fire danger are concerned is actually free! Storing valuables in your freezer is a great and inexpensive way to protect them from damage. If a house goes up in flames, or comes down because of a storm or quake, the freezer will still be there. To protect from theft, get a box that once held a frozen dinner, put your stuff in there and stash it in the back of the freezer. Hope this helps. Edit: I sure like your creativeness, and yes, you could build something like you're thinking of....but the details are tricky. How are you going to attach a door? And the door must fit VERY well to be effective against fire. I kind of like the other persons idea of buying a used mini=freezer cheap and cementing that in. You could add a hefty hasp to a used freezer and lock it that way. You might look on Craigs list and see what the going price for something like that is. GL
  2. Just buy an inexpensive box at STAPLES. No box will protect valuables if your house burns to the ground. This is why we have homeowners insurgence. If you still want a security / safe box get a borken down small chest freezer that locks, keep it in your basement with other junk piled on top of it. I'm sure you can get one for free and they offer good fire protectoin too..
