Safe Luxury

How safes is your baby when he or she was born for just about 34 weeks and just about 1-2 kl or 4lbs?

  1. Well it's not that safe. The baby is fully developed but not yet fully ready to come out of the womb. A normal weight would be around 6 - 8 pounds. Babies do survive even though they are so small.. but it also increases the chances of something devastating happening.
  2. Starting at 33 weeks their lungs are almost mature so almost all babies will be healthy and need very little medical intervention.
  3. I was induced at 37 weeks with my baby due to pregnancy complications. The doctors wanted my baby born as soon as possible. 37 weeks was the time because that is when the baby's lungs are fully formed (the last thing needed for the baby to be ready to be born). 34 weeks is premature, but not dangerously. They will probably give the baby oxygen until he or she is ready to breathe on their own. 4 pounds is small but not dangerously small. My aunt was born at 3 pounds and now she is a healthy 50 year old. And that was 50 years ago when hospitals were nothing like they are now. With medical care, this baby should be completely safe.
  4. The window considered 'safe' for birthing is 38 - 42 weeks. The dates and weights you mention would automatically land your baby in the NICU. Even if it's healthy, and even though lung function is probably developed, it usually still needs a bit longer to fully mature in your womb. On the other hand, a babies born that early have a very good chance of survival, though in order to thrive they might require intensive medical care in the beginning. Also, preemie babies tend to have more medical problems (some more serious, some less) in early childhood and possibly throughout life. http://breastfeedingchronicles.blogspot.com/
  5. I had a baby boy 17mths ago. He was born at 31 weeks weighing only 2lbs he was in hospital for 2mths.Now he is a healthy happy boy he is a little bit behind in speech but that is too be expected. He is walking, talking a little and very happy. Your child will be find when i was in hospital they said a child born at 34 weeks on are fully developed. The doctors in neo-natal are brilliant so i would not worry. Best of luck.
