What do you know of the vacuum-sealed vaults in the Vatican library?

containing thousands of ancient esoteric books from around the world that have been stolen and hoarded over the years and kept out of public circulation?

Public Comments

  1. Well I know that they're vacuum-sealed and hoarded, but were they really stolen? Got some evidence of that? And I don't know how well they've been kept out of circulation if you know about them...
  2. Plus the finest blends of Robusta and Arabica beans hand picked by Monsignor Juan Valdez himself.
  3. nothing. my understanding is that they've been kept out of public circulation and hoarded over the years. oooo.... pwnd like a n00bapotmus.
  4. I know only about 20 people per year are allowed in. You have to let them know exactly what books you want to see - and only those books are made available to you. One must go through a rather lengthy qualification process, and one must be obtaining a certain type of degree.
  5. That's the point we don't know and sure would like to though.
  6. "Never attribute to malice, what can more easily be explained by stupidity" or in this case greed. Many conspiracists claim that the Vatican is purposefully hording lots of secret books and documents. The truth is that they are just hoarding. They do not have the manpower to sort through all the loot. Only recently they have gotten they have realized that some of the treasure are deteriorating (and therefore losing value) so they have started sending trusted higher clergy in to organize and restore them.
  7. And the ancient papal collection of every Playboy magazine since the fifties, preserved in vacuum for all eternity.
  8. Seems to be a lot of opinions. Seems there is a lack of supplied evidence with those opinions. What library doesn't treasure ancient books? And why is this associated with "greed" rather than responsibility? No treasured documents are given to the public to handle and thus cause damage. If the Sorbonne did it this story would be one of "responsibility to the treasured documents." It shows malice to consider the Vatican library any differently.
