Safe Luxury

Regarding security safes and finger print readers.?

I'm looking into buying a home security safe, and have found quite a list of options. I've currently got it narrowed down to 2 choices, one is a $400 safe with electric keypad and key requirements, and the other is a $500 safe with a electric keypad, key, and finger print reader. Please note, I'm *not* actually worried about having someone break into my home and taking the safe, but rather I'm in such a position that I can't trust a member of my household. The safe is reasonably heavy enough that the person could not just pick it up, and walk away. Is the finger print reader actually worth it? In the extreme chance that both the key and number sequence is found, will the finger print reader actually make a difference, or not? Please note, I'm not asking if the actual feature is worth it, but if it will be effective. My laptop has a finger print reader, and it's worth all of a pocket full of lint. Almost anyone can get it to open. I don't know if it's just eye candy on the safe, or an actual effective system.

  1. Well, I think the fingerprint reader is a good idea if you are trying to keep something away from someone in your house, and it is only $100 more. It seems like a better safety feature. This person could get hold of the number sequence and even any other info if you are not careful, so yes I think the fingerprint ID is a good idea. Hope this helps.
  2. In the extreme chance that you die and nobody can hack off your thumb to open the safe........... Sorry for being a smart @ss, but it does come across funny to me. I would skip the finger print reader. But have you tried a safety deposit box? (The rental of a safety deposit box is tax deductible, but that's because Uncle Sam wants to know where all your goodies are kept)
