Will the Feds ever offer a Cash for Guns scheme like Cash for Clunkers?
I work part time selling guns. When I first started a long time ago, I screwed up. I paid $15 for a beat up 22, I think it was a Savage, maybe not. I honestly thought after cleaning and sighting in, it would be a serviceable plinker. It wasn't. The boss was a little mad because he didn't consider it salable. It was locked up for nearly a year in a storage vault. Then they had a gun buy back program. You got $25, even for a bolt action 22. Semi-auto? That meant $50! POS 25 auto pistol, you got $100. We got rid of a Raven Arms MP-25 that way. Probably paid $10 for it. No takers at $50, not even $30, but the government was glad to pay $100 for it! We even recovered a small profit on the 22. Pity they only allowed the turn in of 2 guns per person. I still work for that shop. We have a Marlin 60 from about 1975 that has sat on our racks for a year or so. Was $75. Marked down to $60, then to $50. No takers. It is beat. The funny part is it is technically an "Assault Rifle" as if you have a detachable magazine of 10+ rounds or a fixed magazine of 15+ rounds. This gun and other semi-auto tube fed 22's had typically 17 until the early 1990's. Today the Model 60 has only 14 rounds in a shorter tube simply because the old way technically made it an "assault rifle". What fearsome force of mercenary-terrorists carry a 1980's vintage Marlin 60 into battle? How many live to tell about it? Maybe they want to incapacitate our troops by having them laugh hysterically at their "assault weapons"? Who can understand those dastardly minds. Sheer military genius if you ask me! Anyhow... we will be glad to turn in this evil weapon. We fully expect the reward to be over $100. We have a vault of garbage guns we'd LOVE to unload. Will Uncle Sam be buying soon?

- Not likely, considering our current budget deficit, thanks to the mess Dubya left this nation in.
- I don't know if the Feds would do that, but it could (and sometimes does) happen in the inner cities. Start paying attention to any storefront preachers you may run across.
- It seems that our country is moving towards that antigun platform. Obama has nominated Sonia Sotomayor to preside in our highest Supreme Court in the land. Sotomayor would back such a program and according to her "views" it is constitutional to her. If she won't allow Maloney to own nunchucks, much less allow him to own a handgun. To her nunchucks are assault weapons, I guess that our hunting rifles look like WMD's to her. If Obama gets his way and begins to sponsor antigun bills into Congress and the Liberal Democrats along with traitorous Republicans who embrace antigun legislation too, they might pass such a similar Cash For Guns scheme.
- Recently in Central Falls, RI the Mayor made headlines by promoting a gun buy-back. He paid $50.00 out of his own pocket (not the city's or the Fed's) for each gun ANYONE brought in, no questions asked. Needless to say it was a success. He spent over $10,000.00. He picked up quite a few junkers as well as German lugers and antiques muskets. The news reported that sewer covers would be made from the recycled guns. (I'm sure after the good ones were picked over by the Mayor)
- I may be interested in some "garbage guns" as long as they are safe to shoot. Some of the bet rifles I have owned are ugly as sin and all beat to heck. It a shame to see them go to the government. I think the gun buy backs are a crock, its just the Libs giving away money and grabbing guns.
- THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GARBAGE GUN , WHEN 1 SIMPLE SCREW OUT OF AN OLD JUNK MARLIN IS WORTH ABOUT .90 CENTS. AND A USED INNER MAGAZINE TUBE IS WORTH ABOUT 30 BUCKS. IN OUR SHOP WE WOULD PART OUT OLD WORN OUT GUNS AND MAKE ONE HELL OF A PROFIT. AN OLD MARLIN PURCHASED FOR ABOUT 60 BUCKS YIELDED A 140 DOLLAR PROFIT DON'T BELIEVE IT JUST CHECK OUT THE PRICES IN THE GUN PARTS CATALOG FROM NUMRICH.
- * No they don't need to do that to recover Firearms from American Citizens.* I will give up my Guns as soon as they do it first.*.. " Try Living in America without Your Guns and Your Ammo; I Dare You."...... " Only a Criminal, Tyrant, or a Tyrannical Government is Afraid of the Armed American Citizen."...
- maybe who knows but i think that anyone who turns in their guns to he government of their own free will for money is very ignorant guns should not be sold to the feds it will eventually disarm Americans and fall in to play with the liberal plan if it ever happens i sure hope it is a flop
- Everyone blames the liberals for the whole gun/economy mess, and I disagree. "King George" screwed up this nation *big-time*. In response to your remark about who would carry a 80's vintage Marlin Model 60 into combat... well... I would if I had to. Admittedly the .22LR falls short of "powerful", but hell, I can put the bullet in the right place, and the Marlin is just rock solid reliable, and as (if not more) accurate than $1000 .22 match rifles. That being said, I'd prefer my Redhawk and M1903... All of those little gun buy-backs are pretty much state funded. With the advent of this cash for clunkers deal, the Feds learned that it was stupid to begin with. All it does is give the rich yuppie bast**ds a discount of $4,500 on a new car they were going to buy anyway. It doesn't help the average person one damn bit. No-one can afford a new car (other than the rich yuppie bast**ds), and in this economy they expect everyone to go "green". Just rich people playing god. I don't think we'll be seeing any Federal gun buy back programs anytime soon. They learned their lesson with the cash for clunkers program.
- Yeah, that "garbage guns" statement felt like a shot through the heart. If it goes bang and can shoot straight, then it is certainly deserving of a loving home. If that Marlin 60 can hit a beer can at 50 yards, I would gladly pay $50 to rescue it and I'm sure there's a bunch of folks that would do the same. No, I don't think we will be seeing federal gun buy backs soon. At least I hope not. These programs are generally looked at as anti-gun propaganda, paying cash for taking evil guns off the street.
- Yes, I think that the dolts in Washington would actually buy back guns. The real "Cash for Clunkers" program is pay checks for Washington politicians.
