Is it better to be safe at home or experience the world?
My family thinks that at from when I was born till 17 years old all I can do is stay home safe from danger while other people get to experience new things and all I do is just sit at home and watch tv. Not even allowed to go outside. So I wanted peoples opinions, do you think kids should be able to do stuff like experience the world and what to do and what not to do by experience or stay at home safe from drugs, alcohol, violence?

- Did you know that teenagers don't use the front of the brain. That is the part that knows how to make decisions. So when it comes to what you let your child do,has a lot to do with their minor decision making abilities. It has to do with their friends ability to make decisions. If you have friends who have proven to make bad ones all the time, you won't be going anywhere with them. But if you have friends who do make good decisions, you will get out of the house.
- Get outside and experience good and bad for yourself. Your parents will not be there forever to wrap you in cotton wool so get confidence in life by experiencing it for yourself.
- HECK no you need to get out! I'm 16 my mom is kind of protective too but I still find ways, they can't shelter you forever. Life would be boring AS YOU MAY KNOW if you don't get out so you need to. You will be a lot more happy if you are allowed out of the house
- they should definitely be able to experience the world but i can see why your parents are trying to keep you away from drugs, alcohol and violence, every parent tries to do that. But its important that you show your parents you are responsible and they need to trust in you that they taught you right and that you will make the right decisions. You need to experience life to function in the real world or its gonna be major stress and melt down when you get into the real world and you might not know how to handle problems that come your way.
- remind your parents that they once were your age and didn't want to be stuck in side a house all day I am a mother and I think it is the best thing to go out and experience the world First hand you might hget hurt some but it omes with the teritory so to say
- you have to be prepared for the outside world, i think you are old enough to make your choices about alcohol and drugs but violence is not something you can choose. yes you need a little bit of freedom to help you make choices in your life and also i believe you have to make a few mistakes as you learn from them. also you have to learn to say no. and not be pressurised into anything you conceive as wrong.so i suppose i am saying yes to experiencing the world outside your four walls. good luck
- Part of life is being able to live it. Staying at home all the time isnt a way to live but you do have to remember as teens we do tend to do stupid stuff since we only use part of our brain and it is still developing. Especialy the logic in the very back center. You need to get out there and enjoy life see what there is too see but your rents are right that you shouldnt do too much stuff. Duh you shouldnt do drugs or alcohol but you should know well enough not too. That is part of your choice as a person so you should be out there despite the danger of making dumb decisions. Best of luck!
- both. I personally love to go out and adventure with my best friend (whom is my bf), and it's awesome. its fun to create who you really are. if you're stuck inside the house all day, you're just letting your life pass you by. when you go out, you're able to really voice your opinion, communicate, socialize with other people and have fun! I love staying home as well, it's very relaxing. sometimes you need to stay home. it can keep you grounded. :) its best to balance both. you don't want to be stuck in one. you don't want to be sheltered. cause when you get out, you'll just rebel and go crazy! its better to grow and LEARN. you can't learn life through the television. its all about being hands on. :) good luck!
