Which treadmills are safe in home with children?
I want to get a treadmill. With the sad accident at the Tyson home I am wondering what type of treadmill they had? What made it unsafe? In a way I hesitate to ask these questions as the loss of their little girl is so so sad. But if the danger of a particular model treadmill is known then homes can be made safe for our children. Did any of the news articles say what feature on the treadmill made it unsafe around little ones? ~Candice

- Treadmills should contain a "key" which must be plugged into or attached to the treadmill in order for it to function. No key, no function. The key should be kept out of reach of children so they cannot accidentally activate the treadmill. Most people attach the loop to themselves when they're on the treadmill so that if they falter or fall, the key is unplugged and the treadmill stops, preventing injury. This treadmill has a magnetic key http://treadmillscentral.com/images/Tunturi%20T20%20Treadmill%20Console.jpg. I believe what happened to the Tyson girl was that the key was on a looped string and her head was caught in the loop. My treadmill has a magnetic key (with a loop, unfortunately). But I have no small children in my house.
