Are digital cameras safe to go through the xray machines at airports?
Please list sources if you have them.

- As long as they are turned off. You will be fine.
- Yes
- Yes. The reason regular cameras can't go though is because the film inside them is very sensitive to x rays and they will appear on a photograph as if they were exposed to light. A digital camera lacks film so its fine to send through.
- Yeah we have x-rays at my school and nobodie's electronics are ever messed up.
- I have never heard any issues with cameras themselves going thru x-ray machines, but have heard that film may partially develop going thru the machine. Keep all film out of the camera in the safe containers until using.
- Absolutely...the caution against cameras and x-rays had to do with the FILM in cameras (before digital)...the x-rays could expose the film just like light can...but that is not an issue with digital cameras, and their memory sticks are not affected by x-rays at all.
- I was able to take my digital camera around the world without any issues from xray machines. No worries.
- I don't know. I'd hand carry.
- I just got back from Texas where my digital and memory cards went through an x-ray machine and they were fine. They only post signs about film because the x-rays can prematurely develop them.
