How to bolt a safe properly on the wall or floor with carpet.?
Public Comments
- You can't bolt anything with carpet, you need to use bolts.
- depending on the type of safe i'd imagine. if the safe isnt predrilled or if it doesnt have mounting brackets/holes you could check with the manufacturer to find out if any are available. at least to do it within thier specifications.
- Locate the floor joists or wall studs and bolt right to them...if they line-up. A quick way would be to lag-bolt it right to the floor. Use the biggest lag-bolts that fit the safe. Get washers, too. Start the hole with a hammer and spike and maybe drill a little pilot -hole so its not so hard to turn them down. You will need a wrench or socket to turn it. For security, you could round-off the heads of the lag-bolts so they won't accept a wrench anymore...(an angle grinder would be a quick, but messy way to do this)... Lag bolts shown here... http://www.boltdepot.com/lag-bolts.aspx Special security bolts are available... http://tufnutworks.com/ The truly correct way would be to get a contractor or tradesman in there to open up the area and add bracing or a solid fixture that you could secure it to.
