Where are good places to go in the beginning of fallout 3?

I just got fallout 3 and just got out of vault 101 and i am wondering where i should go from there. like which direction is the best to go towards and which way to go to get better guns. i need all the help I can get for that game. All answers are welcomed. Thanks.

1. megaton just go north east of your location when you leave the volt it has a robot saying welcome to megaton and the will be a homless guy on the ground asking for a water. thats the first place you need to go. it has missions. docter, and a bar and all the items you need in your adventure.. Hope this helps
2. your main quest will take you to Megaton, its the first town you'll come across, a little bit south of Vault 101, if you're following the main storyline (or any quests), learn to use your compass, it'll point you in the right direction; as far as places to go, you can really go anywhere but you might want to level up some first, most enemies level alongside you, so you can take on most things (except maybe deathclaws and super mutant behemoths) but with weak armor and weapons you wont get too far, my best advice is if you're just starting out and never played it before, just follow the main storyline and get familiar with everything (using compass, VATS, metro system, skills/perks/karma, how to heal, etc), you can run through the whole main story in like 5-7 hours and when compared to the whole scale of them game, the main quest line is actually pretty small. Behind Megaton theres a hidden rock that contains some decent items if you're just starting out, just go around the right side of the outer gate and its right on the back. 3. if you want the best weapon in the game you must get the alien blaster ..its way north from megaton but its worth it you can find the weapon near MDPL-13 (a huge power plan) you can also find a sniper rifle with some ammo just near / back of megaton wall ..the rifle is hidden inside a rock that have three little trees around it (the roch just a fiew feet away from the wall)
