How could you keep your family safe in one of these tornado outbreaks ?
I've just moved to oklahoma city in oklahoma where is mostly known as tornado alley, i didn't want to move but i had to because of my job relocation. Since i've heard on television on the news back in 1999 about the deadliest may 3rd 1999 tornado outbreak in history, i never would want to move here if it wasn't for my job. But does anything like that ever happen here often ? People said that tornadoes here in Oklahoma forms into the deadly F5 tornadoes that is about a mile wide in diameter. What are some ways i could make sure my wife & family is safe during one of these outbreaks if I'm away from home ? Also, how could i keep myself safe if i am on the 34th floor in an building with only express elevators ? The elevators don't have stops between floors Lobby - 29th. I'm very curious about my family's safety and mine's in case if one of these tornado outbreaks occurs

- I have seen 11 tornadoes(some up close) they are quite random and the chances of you actually getting hurt are quite small. Buy a house with a basement! Houses on slabs are cheaply built in general and leave you with no place to go. Large buildings are quite safe just go in the stairwell away from windows. Most injuries are from debris flying around.
- Learn about tornado safety and your buildings plan in case there is a tornado. You should not stay on the 34th floor, but move down to the basement. While it is common for people new to the area to panic and every little storm your neighbors will probably come in handy when helping you decide its time to go down stairs. You will want ti use the stairs, not the elevator since there is an increased risk of the power going out. Its possible you may see one, but I have lived in tornado alley for 26 years and have never seen a tornado.
