Safe Luxury

what do you do to keep your dog occupied when your not home?

my dog has got seperation anxiety and i dont want to give her medication unless i really have to there-for im looking for safe and interesting ways to occupy her when im home. she is a yard dog, and isnt in the house when i go o work so things for the yard will be awesome if anyone has some ideas. im looking for home made treats and toys that keep your dog occupied and busy when their alone. ive been told about freezing water and attatching it to a bone, and when the water melts the bone will fall for the dog giving it a treat when your not home. does anyone have safe and other ways to occupy dogs? my dog has more than enough toys and im looking for other things to do. she is an 11 month old husky. and she is only outside during the day when im at work, then she's inside untill i go to bed as she is a big dog so she sleeps outside right at the back door where she can still see inside the house and she feels safer there.. i work full time meaning 38 hours a week ( sigh ) i have put the tv on for her but i have to turn it up loud so she can hear it. but i have thought of getting her a radio.

  1. leave some games with treats inside of them like box with a treat inside and leave some music so it block out the otside noise
  2. Stuffed Kongs are great for seperation anxiety. But since you aren't really looking for any more toys, maybe you could turn on Animal Planet while you're gone to give your dog a little entertainment. Best of luck to ya!
  3. Let them watch animal planet.
  4. A Kong stuffed with goodies, and Bully sticks. I also leave the TV on for her, but you can also leave a radio on. Even cover the crate with a blanket. Nyla bones are great too.
  5. Leave it movies of Rin, Tin, Tin; Lassie; 101 Dalmatians; and Old Yeller.
  6. My dog does too. Once it was so bad that she completely scratched up these doors at my house and my dad almost got rid of her. Now if it is a younger dog then she will probably love bones but I wouldn't put dogs around them my dog would die for them. Make sure your dog area is comfy we put a blanket down on the ground for my dog. Plus sometimes if you have another dog to keep them company.
  7. I leave the TV on animal planet & make sure he has his toys & food & water
  8. I give mine Kongs, filled with treats.. I hide them in the house, but then again I am not gone long. I also leave the T.V on for noise. My cockerspaniels have lots of chew toys... it fun for them. Ok
  9. leave lots of treats and toys, and play music to drown out sounds of outside, or mabey if hes small enough get a cage and leave him inside so he doesnt get sad, or get a BIG tube and leave it in the yard he'l LOVE IT! good luck! :)
  10. well, mine is an indoor only dog, and he is in his crate when we are out. the longest we leave him for is about 4-6 hours. he's fine for longer, but i feel bad if he's in there longer (my guilt). luckily, i work 3 minutes from home, so i come home and walk him on my break. he feels safer in his crate, and can't get into trouble. since yours is an outdoor dog, the only thing you can do is provide toys for her. how big is she? is there a reason that she is outdoors all the time? i don't know about your dog, but mine won't touch a soggy bone (the water and bone thing). apparently, people aren't paying attention. you said she's outside, so the TV won't work, and no Animal Planet. what about getting another dog? if you can afford it, that might be a solution (ONLY if you can).
