Is it safe to give my home address to a prison penpal?
I want to write to a prison inmate. Is it safe to give him my home address? He has been incarcerated for 14 years now for drug trafficking. He'll be released in a little over 4 years. He is in a cell for 24 hours a day and he doesn't have much family or friends who write or visit him. I just want to write him to lift up his spirits. Do you think that its safe that i write to him? The post office where i live is charging too much money to set up a p.o box address so i though it may not be any harm with me giving him my home address.

- no never as you will never have peace in the future, its to dangerous
- I you have not known him personally for maybe years then no its not a good idea.
- I would strongly recommend you do not give out your home address to anyone in prison. If you really want to write to this person, then either get a post office box and pay for it, or check places like the ups store that have mail boxes and compare prices, maybe you can find the cheapest place. This guy has been in prison for 14 years and has 4 more years to go, when he gets out you have no real idea of who or what he is. Be safe, not sorry
- No, it's not safe to do that. It's worth the money to set up a post office box. Just save a little each month until you have enough to do it. What if he gets out, steals your stuff, hides illegal stuff at your place, hurts your family, etc? That would cost way more than a P.O. Box.
- .Only if you don't care if he, or someone he sends, shows up on your doorstep at some point. I wouldn't do it. Prison inmates are in prison for a reason. Find more law-abiding pen pals (or at least ones who haven't been convicted).
- DO NOT GIVE YOUR HOME ADDRESS ! He would not be in a cell 24/7 unless he was/is a violent offender. Don't be stupid. Other people that he has contact with could show up at your home and cause you lots of grief. Avoid contact with this person. That means no phone calls as well. These kind of people pray on innocent people.
- People do give out their home addresses to inmates, however I would not personally give out my home address or real name in that situation. You just can't predict how things will turn in the future, I think it is better to be safe than sorry.
