Safe Luxury

Is my tea safe from office mice?

I had an incident a few months back with a tin can of "chai latte" mix. It was mostly sugar and spice. Somehow it attracted a mouse (or more) that were unable to get inside the tin but pooped all over my desk (uck). I ended up throwing away the chai latte can...even though it appeared "safe", the whole ordeal freaked me out. So today I brought in these "Mighty Leaf" tea packets in their box. But now I'm afraid to leave them here. They are in a thick paper box (not thick enough to keep out a mouse) and the bags are exposed a bit by the opening in the box. I've brought green tea to work before in packets, but this tea is a mixture of all sorts of leaves and chamomile flowers, etc (it's a variety pack). Is my tea safe? Or should I just bring the whole box home with me? There are traps. I do not work in a restaurant...what restaurant have you ever been to that has an office? o__O Thanks, Briteyes. I think I will do that. I thought the box was so cute I wanted to bring it in, but I quickly remembered the LAST time I brought stuff to work...and yeah. I'll just bring tea bags individually in some plastic bags (in the purse) from now on. Thanks !

  1. Ewww, I wouldn't leave anything food related at work unless you kept it in the fridge! Those are considered unsanitary working conditions. Against the law!!!
  2. Nasty....I hope you don't work in a restaurant. Do you think it was teh computer mouse that ate your tea?
  3. mice will chew through any box. If you want to keep your tea safe you should store it in a glass or ceramic jar or a metal tin. Put out some mouse traps in your office. I wouldn't be able to work in a place full of mice. ewww! http://www.enjoyingtea.com/tea-storages.html?gclid=COXwlY-J0p8CFRBtswodiXfxbQ
  4. Ugh! I completely sympathize. We had a *terrible* mouse problem at my old job, and I ended up keeping all of my tea in my desk drawer. They couldn't get at it even if they wanted to, and I felt better knowing they weren't crawling all over it. (Wish I could say the same about MY DESK!) That said, the mice never seemed to bother much with the tea in the kitchen cabinets--even the herbal teas--but they did chew through other boxes and crawl through open tea packets. I wouldn't risk it. If you can't keep your tea in your desk, I recommend either getting a metal tin to keep the tea mouse-proof, or bringing a tea bag or two with you every day. And ask your boss or office manager to invest in some mouse traps!
  5. Surely you can get a nice tea jar. This will keep the mice out. And the freshness of the tea inside. Plus it will look nice on your desk.
  6. Just keep it in a glass jar, it will be safe.
