How Do I Start my Laptop in Safe-Mode?
So there's that new super-virus out, and apparently all you have to do to check if you have it is to start your computer in Safe-Mode, rather than spend $80 on a computer scan. However, I can't find out how to start my Laptop in Safe-Mode. I have the Windows Vista Premium Home Edition, and was wondering is anyone could help me out.

- afe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly, or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. If a problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes. If a recently installed program, device, or driver prevents Windows from running correctly, you can start your computer in safe mode and then remove the program that is causing the problem. 1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer. Click the Start button Picture of Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button Picture of Lock button, and then click Restart. 2. Do one of the following: • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer. • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8. 3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press ENTER. For more information about options, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode). 4. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights. When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of the display. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.
- Keep in mind that its not a "virus" thats coming out today. It's just all the infected computers that has it already is about to get new instructions! Which could be harmful or just still personal infromation like your SSN or bank information ONLY if you put it on there. NO the worm just dont download itself onto your machine you got to be already infected with it. Also keep in mind if you was infected you will know from non stop pop ups and error messages and unable to access alot of programs on your computer such as the control panel etc. Other ways to check if you really have it is try going to microsoft.com if you can view the page then your safe. Because this worm blocks out major sites like that to prevent you from removing it. Here are some steps you can take to avoid it if your not infected! 1. DO NOT click on pop up ads. Always remember to click the X dont attempt to click on it if it freezes and wont go away just remain calm and continue to hit X and when you do so normally end program comes on and you click it. Now it may close out all your windows but just start them back up. 2. DO NOT accept files from ANYONE no matter if they family or friends keep in mind thousands of computers are infected already and your friends or family may of got it and they pretending to be like them and sending it to you. 3. DO NOT visit strange websites stick to your daily routine. Also remove limewire and such file sharing programs. 4. DO NOT download anything you dont know nothing about. 5. DO NOT accept a e-mail called hallmark postcard it claims someone sent you a ecard but soons you open it COULD damage your computer so be smart and dont take the risk just simply delete the e-mail without clicking the link. 6. Be careful of youtube and game websites. Most of all shutting down your computer doesnt stop the virus if your infected. Once you turn it back on it will be waiting for you. So just be careful and dont panic. Also dont be clicking links on here. If you want to find out more visit the yahoo tech page. Simply go to yahoo.com and type in yahoo tech and hit blogs. Also alot of people are asking YES this worm is real.
- I don't think starting In safe mode will do anything, I heard that using run and searching for it, run is located on the start menu, by typin conflicker in the run box. I'm up to date on software and patches and am protected from it. By the way the virus/worm isn't being launched today it is recieving adaptions, updates, and commands. Don't clock anything popup wise or download free ringtones or music from unknown sites. If your infected I'm you could take it into a computer store and have it removed. This virus spreads through networks like wireless adapters and recivers. Do not hook up to unknown wireless networks, use unknown USBs or open unknown emails. Hope this helps
- Precisely from the Horses Mouth on Safe Mode in Vista: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx P.S. If the scan you're trying to avoid paying for is malware/spyware or anti-virus please don't think that Safe Mode is the cure. You need to run security scans and there are multiple free programs to do that. Post back with Additional Information if you need more info on that
