- No it is not safe. Just installing the program can give you tons of malware. Even before you start downloading. Avoid it like the plague! And any program or service that logs your ip address can ultimately lead to hacking.
- No I don't think so I have used it for 4 years and never had any of that happen.
- It's not safe.... You can get virus easily... even though you have anti virus programs. so i recommend don't use them... if you want to download songs or movies, get them using Bitornado (a bit torrent program).
- People can hack into your computer when your on the web, its like sending an email, if you sent me an email i could hack into your computer, with the right knowledge.
- I do not believe they can hack directly into your system through limewire. If you use it though, make sure to virus check EVERYTHING you download before you open it to make sure its safe, otherwise there are viruses that can do all sorts of nasty things.
- I believe that is true. And hacking and all that stuff aside they embed spyware into your computer. For downloading songs I always pay the extra 99 cents and use itunes.
- Yes not only limewire but no one p2p software has been trustworthy and safe.
- your computer is not safe if you just install limewire you will have virus malware trojan
- I don't know of a safe P2P site. Many downloads have the title you are looking for, but are actually viruses looking for a home on your computer. Besides that, it is illegal to upload or download copyrighted material.
- Very true!!!! But as long as you disable Sharing of your downloaded files and do not respond to Incoming Requests....you're in safe ground!!!! Any more tips needed???
- Yes and no. you can download songs and videos but never ever download programs and documents. There is a 95/100 chance of getting a virus and mostly they are trojans. Trojans are viruses that hide in programs that look nice and tempting.
- Used to be, if you have an old copy.
- yes, i've been using the program for almost three years without any problems.
- I don't know about hacking into your computer by using Limewire alone, but then again I'm not an expert. As for Limewire being safe to download files? It all depends. Although nothing is ever going to be 100% safe. However, I would advice you to always keep an anti-virus program running, while downloading files. It will help protect you against some of the "false-files", that are actually viruses in disguise. Please if you're not really knowledgeable with computers, don't ever download .zip files, or anything other than the basic music and video files. If you're anti-virus tells you it's dangerous to open the file, do not open the file. :|You'd be amazed how many of my friends have actually overriden their anti-viruses warning. (BAD IDEA). Good luck. PS. I do use Limewire, and it's never installed any spy-ware on my laptop; but there are Limewire versions with added malaware to them, so be wary.
- I've been using Limewire for a long time and haven't had any problems. To make it safer, do not share your files to limit access. Also, be careful in downloading stuff...
- limewire is not safe as in you can get a virus or other problems with what you download. make sure your firewall is running and keep your anti-virus up todate
- Not for noobies
- i doubt that limewire could steal your personal information, but it is not safe. check this article about danger of fileshare programs: http://www.2-spyware.com/news/post91.html some installs of limewire are infected and you can get a computer parasite when you install limewire. there's also another threat, when you donwload a file using limewire/kazaa/bearshare/etc, you download it from people you don't know. and most files that spread titled as "music for free" "games for free" and so on ARE infected. so be very careful.
