Safe Luxury

is it all right to leave your computer open for 5 days straight?

i'm going on vacation for 5 days, and no one will be home except a maid maybe, so i'm wondering is it safe to leave my computer on downloading torrents?

  1. this depends on the stuff in ur computer like how old is it how much did it cost when you bought it what are the specs and cooler. if its al stock then no as over 5 days the temperature will keep going up. ppl with good computers can but since ur asking this question im guessing you dont have much experience which means u have an average computer so the answer is no. usuall computer can be kept on for 1 whole day without too much damage but thats it before damage that will appear over time starts apperaing
  2. I don't see any problem as long as you don't mind the maid using your PC & accessing all of your personal stuff. I leave mine on all the time running SETI@hm, but I do turn off the monitor when I'm not using the PC, which might save a whopping 30-40 watts/hr in electro. If you're interested in not overheating the PC get some software to monitor the internal temps (CPU, HD, etc) & put in a slot fan if you're running too hot.
  3. It's not safe to leave your computer on for so long unless you put it to Sleep or Hibernate. It's best to turn it off, like every other electrical appliance when you are gone for a while (That does not include fridge :D). Also, if an unexpected power surge happens it may fry your HD.
  4. you should be fine, although put it on a surface that doesn't hold heat easily, such as a glass table. Why is a maid coming when nobody's going to be there? I wouldn't trust them.
