Does wirefree/wireless internet have any health risks?

We need to move our computer downstairs so are thinking of getting a wireless home internet connection. I have heard of lots of health problems etc associated with living near mobile masts and other radio transmitters etc, but is wireless internet in your home, completely safe?

  1. Think for a minute about all the radio waves floating in the air in your house. Your cell phone - your cordless phone - your microwave - your television - DVD player, etc., etc. Now how could wireless internet be other than completely safe. There are no wires connecting the computer to the cable, for if there is, it isn't wireless. There is usually a modem, a router and a USB adapter. If you've been using a computer, your health isn't going to be any more endangered by wireless than it has been in the past.
  2. Wirless internet transmitters aren't too powerful. There have been no studys into the effects. BUt chances are even without the setup in your home your probabily exposed to the radiowaves of that type qite frequently. I wouldn't be worried.
  3. I think they are bad, same as cordless phones (which i do have) as they are transmitting all the time
  4. I would think they are safe. Why else would people use them in their homes? Would you stick your fingers in a power socket if you thought it was unsafe?
  5. I do not think so. In wireless networks, each of the computers on the network have a wireless card and a router assigns network addresses to each of the computers. Wireless cards, routers should be compatible with 802.11g or 802.11n, cards with 802.11b are usually slower and cheaper For wireless internet the router is connected to the cable or ADSL modem with a standard Ethernet cable . After setting up the router, the computers will connect to the internet wirelessly. Usually the wireless signal is available for a distance of about 500 m from your router. To prevent misuse, you should encrypt your wireless network , using WEP or WPA. More information at http://fixit.in/wireless.html
