- I never open ANY mail or download anything that looks suspicious. Even if it's addressed to me. Only mail that I am expecting from my peeps. Make sure all your protection is up to date and run scans daily to insure you get rid of anything. Some viruses sneek in and lay low for a while and you don't even know you have it and you could spread it to others. Also, I try not to click on a link unless I know it's safe, type it in instead. I typed in one wrong letter once and I ended up on a porn site accidently and I've been getting freaky emails ever since. I don't open it, I report it as Spam. You may need to get some kind of removal software. But be careful, make sure it's from a reputable source, like Norton or Symantec. Make sure they are with the BBB. I also emailed my mother some pictures of myself and she ended up with porn. Turned out it was just pictures I meant to send to my boyfriend, but that's another story.... I'm still learning myself. I hope you get the help you need.
- If you have a good security suite installed on your computer, you do not have to worry at all, like Zone Alarm internet security, Bit Defender internet security and so on My pick, Zone Alarm internet security. You get what you pay for, they all have 30 day free trials, good luck.
- Stay away from cracks, serials, free screensaver, free lyric sites. All these are far more dangerous then porn sites. Porn itself cannot infect your computer. Limewire (or other P2P) downloads infect far far more computers. BTW, Limewire is not a website, its a program that accesses (mostly stolen) material on a network. Actually, if you always keep your Windows and all your software 100% the chances of ANY website exploit being able to successfully compromise your computer are fairly remote. You need to keep ALL of your installed software fully updated and patched to avoid serious security issues from visiting an infected website. Almost all viruses and other malware target vulnerabilities in not only your Windows operating system, but also your other installed software such as Java, Flash-player and Adobe. When these vulnerabilities (or security holes) are patched, most virus can knock all day at the door of your computer but won't be able to infect it! I strongly recommend the regular use of a free, online security tool called The Secunia Software Inspector, that scans a computer for un-secure, un-updated and un-patched apps that may be installed on your computer. The Secunia Software Inspector checks for possibly vulnerable programs like Adobe, Winamp, Java, Windows, Internet Explorer etc. and notifies if critical security updates are needed. Takes about 30 seconds and the results might surprise you! Will work using IE, Opera or Firefox. Pretty cool and free at: http://secunia.com/software_inspector Of coures you will still need a good anti-virus, a good anti-spyware and always have your firewall enabled to stay safe online. Great luck.
