Safe Luxury

Is is it safe for me to be operating this machine on ambien?

Just got home from work, have been awake for 25 hours, was not invited for the bi-weekly pancake cook-a-thon this morning, so, figured I should ward off the insomnia that's been creepin up on me with a little sleepy pill. And now's about the time I begin to deconstruct...please forgive my drool soaked drivel....hopefully I don't do anything too whacky....maybe lock the doors, and turn off the computer for your own safety people!

  1. "just got home from work" & "have been awake for 25 hours"? Doesn't your state have laws about how many hours a nurse can be awake before work? Insomniacs still sleep 8 hours a day, just usually not when they want to. When you can't fall asleep, try doing something that you don't like-clean the bathroom, review your nursing ethics codes, read your drug guide, etc...then return to bed. €If this fails after a week...try getting yourself into the habit of falling asleep at a certain time by taking your ambien--or benadryl--about half an hour before that time...consistently. As a nurse, you should know what machines you can operate on hypnotics (computer, fax, copier) and which you should not (harvesters, log splitters, table saws).
  2. If you are taking Ambien you should allow yourself atleast 8 hours to sleep. You should also not operate any heavy machinery or drive an automobile. Get some rest it will make you feel better!
  3. No. It is not safe to take Ambien period. It keeps you asleep for 24 to 48 hours everytime you take it. That was on the news. Never take Ambien.
