Safe Luxury

im trying to find a SAFE home for my dog any ideas on how to go about that?

i have an 8 month old pit who is the sweetest thing in the world and my boyfriend and i are moving into an apartment where we cant take her and it breaks my heart but its all we can afford so we have to give her up. i really want to find a safe home for her and make sure that she will be taken care of but im not sure how to do that given her breed. what should i do?

  1. I would turn her into a pit bull rescue organization. They take great care in placing dogs in good households.
  2. You should forget about the money first of all. The best thing would be to find a shelter or rescue willing to take her since they will carefully screen potential adopters. Make sure she's spayed before you do anything, so she doesn't end up with someone for breeding purposes
  3. go online and find a pit bull rescue. shelters will euthanize if they can't find it a home. They only have so much money to house, feed and medically treat so many dogs and unfortunately there is an overabundance of pits so guess who goes first because they are hard to place?
  4. First, ask all friends and family members or any people at work or school who might be interested. If that doesn't yield results, post an ad on Craigslist and ask to meet the person in person for a couple hours before you relinquish your dog to them. Additionally, have them answer questions like "Do you live in a house or apartment?" "Do you have kids?" "Is anyone in your family allergic to dogs?" etc You can charge a small rehoming fee such as $40 on Craigslist to pay for medical expenses or ensure a good home.
  5. Now this is much better then the last post. Anyways, you want to advertise on bulletin boards at pet store and the vets around your home. Contact the shelters in your area and let them know to keep her in the back of there minds. They may even get an opening and take her. Young dogs go fast in shelters so they may take her. When someone contacts you about her you need to screen them, plenty of people would take her in as a bait dog, which means they will kill her. Asking a fee of $100 says i won't let her go to just anybody. No one will pay that much for a bait dog. Its also not to much like hey i want a profit here. Good luck. Don't advertise in crappy places. You don't want to attract the wrong crowd. So no ghetto area's.
  6. heck ill take her
  7. I want to say how awful you must feel to have to re-home your Pit! I do not know where you live but I would first check with friends and family, then rescues, post flyers in vets offices and pet stores. I have been told people do not appreciate things unless they pay for them including dogs. If it turns out you must place an adv for your dog charge at least $25. Make sure you have all her shots UTD for peace of mind. Make sure you interview any candidates you are considering very carefully and check their home. You do not want this to happen to her again, next time she may end up in a shelter. Good Luck in whatever you decide!
  8. If all else fails, find a no-kill shelter and take your dog there. That is a shelter where they do not put dogs and cats down. They will keep the dog until they find a home for her but it also means that the shelter may get crowded. But like I said that is a last resort only if you cannot find someone you can trust to adopt her.
