Is it safe to put tape over a wall socket?
I hear noises in my wall quiet bangs and scratches and I think it might be a rat and my wall socket does not have a cover and I don't have one available at the moment so I put some thin brown tape that's shiny over the wall socket incase it is a rat so it won't get in my room is that safe or should I take it off?

- Take it off now! your wall could explode.
- how would a rat get through a tiny wall socket????
- Well its worthless to put it over the exposed wiring, Inside that hole, is a little metal or plastic box, that is pretty much sealed to the inside of the wall, so nothing is coming in through that hole, except for insects, the tape wont effect anything, so you can leave it. The outlet covers are MAYBE 75 cents at home depot/lowes or similar stores.
- I think she means there's NO-electrical receptacle there..adding a hole in the wall.. If there's a rat in the wall..I'd move out.
- tape will not hurt. Probably a mouse... tape over opening.
- Put rat poison in that hole. And then cover it back.
- Yes, it will be fine. If it has wiring in it, then a rat or mouse cannot get into your house through it because it will have an electrical box inside, generally made from hard plastic. Try to find out what kind of pest is living in there for your health and safety. Namely, rats carry diphtheria, tetanus and typhoid among other deadly diseases and Squirrels are notorious for chewing wires and starting house fires. If you have rats, try to avoid using a baiting method that kills the rats. Here's why: The rat eats the poisen and dies inside your walls and as it decays makes your living environment unbearable. It is very expensive to find a dead rat and repair all the drywall taken off your walls to find it. Baits are usually Secondary kill systems. In other words, the rat dies and if a pet finds it and eats it or carries it around, the poisen will then kill your pet. Poisen baits are usually designed to cause the animal to die from internal bleeding. Note: Rule of thumb for catching a rodent in a trap: For a living space, for every 5 traps set, 1 trapped rat = up to 13 still out there per daily catch and 1 trapped rat every 2 days = up to 10 still alive and out there. Best of luck.
