Is Kenny Anderson a living testement to all NBA players, that they should finish up schooling before going pro?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Kenny-Anderson-after-retiring-broke-graduates-;_ylt=AjHSjVn5t_947DiNyjL8cKg5nYcB?urn=nba,240794 Kenny Anderson, who was made $60 million over his entire NBA career, filed for bankrupt a short while after retiring. He recently went back to school to get his Bachelors, which is good, but had he stayed in school for all 4 years, he could have been working on his Masters degree by now and provided his family with a decent income. With that being said, I hope Derrick Rose, who had his friend take his Higschool SAT exam, and also didn't even attend any classes at Memphis, will go bankrupt as well because of his stupidity and ignorance. I'm not saying all NBA players will blow their fortune, but in a recent study, it showed that within 5 years after retiring, 60% of players go bankrupt. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1153364/index.htm (read the very bottom). Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said it best. He talked about how many one-and-done kids are primadonnas who are purley driven on making $30 from their rookie contract. Most of them will inevitably blow their savings within 10 years because they lack common sense.

  1. Derrick Coleman and I think Latrell Sprewell too are struggling financially. Coleman's investment plan failed or something i heard.
  2. What an idiot, he lost 60 million and become broke and go back to school. He should knew this was coming and invested in his 60 million, in starting his own business, all you need to start a business is $100,000, not even a million.
  3. Yep I remember reading what Kareem said yesterday and I totally agree with him. One year of college is really nothing, it's really the same as if they didn't go at all. All it shows is that they started something and didn't finish it. 60% is an outrageous number of players to be going bankrupt especially making that kind of money. I think during all the wining and dining players aren't thinking about the future, they make bad investments or no investments at all, and it doesn't dawn on them until their too old to play anymore. By that time they are in debt and have no education to back them up. This has happened to guys like Latrell Sprewell, Jason Caffey, Derrick Coleman, Antoine Walker and now Kenny Anderson. You take a look at guys like Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan or former NBA journeyman John Crotty, those guys have all made wise business investments and decisions with their money because they are educated and had other avenues after retiring. I give Kenny Anderson props for getting his degree that's good because it gives him options to explore, but I still agree 100% with what Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said.
  4. I agree with Kareem 100% and this story of Kenny Anderson should be the perfect example and testament against players who do 1 year of school to shoot for the smoke and mirrors fast life of sports without a solid foundation. The story of Derrick Rose hurt me.
  5. You and Michael summed it up perfectly; so all I will add to this is: See also: Antoine Walker, Latrell Sprewell.
