Safe Luxury

Will my kitten be safe at home alone for a week?

I am going on vacation in july and i have to leave my kitten home, she is going on her 4.5 will be 5 months old at time of trip. I have a friend who will stop by and check up on her and make sure her litter box, food, and water are all up to par. Im just afraid she will be mad at me for being ogne so long lol. Anything i should do to prepare for this trip to make her time home better?

  1. Cats do not usually hold things against you like that. She should be fine; especially since you have a friend checking in on her. We had a house fire a few years back and we left our cat with my brother-in-law for 4 months and when we got her back, she acted is though we never left.
  2. I would suggest to not go on the trip due to you're kitten still being young, it's just like leaving you're newborn at home alone (so to speak). But if you still choose to go, then having you're friend check up on her or him is good, it will be even better if you left you're kitten at you're friends or family members place, so that you're kitten won't be alone and start crying all the time bothering neighbors. Kind of like when you leave a newborn alone and they start to cry all the time for attention or something.
  3. You could prepare the kitten by leaving her for a day then coming back... just keep making your time away from her longer and longer so she gets used to it.
  4. She'll be fine as long as someone is keeping her fed and watered. Cats do not get "mad" - they don't hold grudges or have vindictive emotions... and don't worry - they also don't sense the passing of time like we do. Do be prepared though for some regression behavior - like pooping on the floor not in the litter box. I'd also keep her away from anything you don't want scratched to pieces. She will be very bored.and look for something to dig at.
  5. be aware because the cat might jump around and break somethings so beware
  6. I don't know how so many of you think cats don't hold grudges. They sure do!! It won't be forever, and its more common in older cats, but they absolutely can. Make sure there are no dangers and if possible, have friend stop over couple of times a day.
