Safe Luxury

How can I feel safe staying home alone for the first time?

I'm staying on my own overnight at home for the first time tonight. I have been home on my own thousands of times before but I have never had to sleep in the house by myself. I'm 17, 18 next month and I know it's a bit pathetic but I'm scared. How do I make myself feel safe? Do you have any tips to stop me from feeling really bored? All my friends are busy so I can't invite anyone over. Yes, I have a dog and a cat :)

  1. Do you have any dogs ... Im 17 and if I stay home alone for the night my dogs always make me feel safe. Or Have a friend stay over ... I usually have my best friend or boyfriend stay the night.
  2. lock the doors ...get a Friend to stay..get your dog with you...dont open the door ...
  3. Don't apologize. It's not pathetic. There are a bunch of people, in any age, that don't like to stay alone. With that being said, maybe you'll have a really good time with the home all for yourself. Not having your folks around can liberating too =) So you can make yourself more comfortable at home by preparing stuff to do in advance. As a matter of fact, you can do so many fun stuff by yourself that this might be a really good experience! Here are some things that you can do: - rent or order a movie that you wanted to see for a long time (you can use movies on demand in cable, go to blockbuster and rent or use netflix. Also buy popcorn or any other snack that you like to munch on while your watching a movie and enjoy. - prepare a book that you would like to read, and read it before you go to sleep, while your in your bed, that would help you fall asleep faster and worry-free. - If you're bored, you can always use the computer; that's a great distraction no matter what. You can try answer questions here, on Yahoo answers and get more points, you can go on facebook ans check out what's new with friends and chat with your friends, or go on youtube and watch funny movies/video clips. - make sure you have food that you like around teh house. No that no one's there to bug you you can eat whatever you want whenever you want. Make yourself a nice breakfast. - talk with a family member in advance and let them know you're staying by yourself for the night, and ask if you can call during the night if you get lonely or just wanna chat. I'm sure they'll be glad to chat with you. So if you feel like you need somebody to talk to or anything just call them. that would be your last resort if you get panicked or something. Overall, there's a good chance that you'll enjoy this night off from family and friends and have a blast doing things that you like bu yourself. Good luck and have fun =)
  4. Just make sure that all the doors and windows are locked in your house. Don't tell anyone that you are staying home alone that night. Stay in a room with a TV and just watch TV and fall asleep. That will help keep your mind off of things. However... stay away from watching scary things. Try something like a comedy. It's not pathetic being scared when spending the night by yourself. I am 29 and don't like being by myself late at night. Just chill out with the dog and cat and watch TV. Good Luck!
  5. I usually lock up early - Cook something I really like, watch a rom-com DVD or mindless TV - things like Dine with me, Kitchen disasters - you know that type of thing. Its also a good chance to treat yourself to a spa night - face pack, manicure etc You will go to bed relaxed and sleep well.
  6. Lock everything, keep a knife under your pillow, and perhaps set up pots and pans in front of every door and window so that it will make a very loud noise when someone breaks in. Also, keep a cell phone beside you. Perhaps even post armed guards in every corner.
  7. Keep your dog with you, go rent a ton of movies- especially comedys so you can have a good laugh and that always makes me feel safer! I usually order food from like dominoes or a place like that, so then i eat dinner and watch movies. also you can go on here, or facebook or just surf the internet. you could go hangout at target or the mall for awhile so your not stuck at home allll day and by going out it will break up the day a bit and make it go faster. you could go to the grocery store and get some ice cream. Then when you are at home have all the doors locked keep the garage shut and turn all the lights on, then keep the tv on or music. When you go to bed keep the light in the hall on and if you would feel safer keep a fan or music on. Some other things you could do well home you could read, turn music on and dance around, bake deserts color, text friends, call friends ect.
