Do old Meilink fire rated safes contain asbestos?
Not sure how old it is; probably 60's or 70's.? Fire class C; "Y634536" on tag inside door. I intend to drill holes in the bottom to secure it to the floor; a heavy crumbly white grout like material is encased in the steel.

- YES. they did use asbestos in them.
- It is possible because asbestos was still widely used back then. The answer is to pay to get it tested by a lab, or use a hepa vac to remove it safely. Non Hepa vacs may let the asbestos blow out the exhaust. After all the loose particles are gone spray a sealant over the top of the grout. If it is Asbestos it is deadly. Otherwise there would not be so many ambulance chaser lawyers doing commercials for victims. Plus an Pipefitter uncle who dies from meslothioma, or black lung disase. Special employer paid training on asbestos, and its dangers ina hospital that had known asbvestos that was not abated (removed safely).
