A weird screen popped up on my computer?

I have a sony vaio with windows vista home premium. A few minutes ago an odd blue screen popped up and said your computer will be restarted to protect it from damage, and below this there was a bunch on mumbo-jumbo and at the bottom it said about the cpu usage percentage... So of course, i restarted the computer, booted in safe mode, ran scans with avast! and malwarebyte's but they turned up nothing... Was this pop-up good or bad?

  1. Something wrong inside ur case, could be over heating, check ur vents & fans
  2. That is a BSOD Blue screen of death. Either you have a virus or your computer got hot and shut off automatically to keep from damage. Get computer cleaner at the store its just compressed air. it bloes out the dirt. if you get more BSODs call a computer guy to get it fixed.
  3. I had this happen on a brand new laptop one time. I called it and reported it to Dell in case I needed to use the warranty one day, and it never happened again.
  4. That popup is know as the (BSOD) Blue screen of death, that happens when a program makes an illegal operation. Which can cause kernel errors, which brings this screen. This a Way that Windows Vista protects other files from being damaged from the operation. It was a program that caused it, before this happened what program did you have running ? It's not that bad, but sometimes it could be depending on the error. It's good that your Anti-Virus Program did not detect any treats. (hope this helps you)
  5. It sounds like the heatsink fan or case fan malfunctioned, allowing the processor to reach critical temperature. Before it can melt down, the emergency overheating protection kicks in. Let it cool down for a while and if you are comfortable doing this, unplug the power and open the case. Position yourself to where you can try to see the heatsink and case fan. Plug in and power up. One of them might be bad. Also-- I fried a processor before from too much dust inside. Dust raises the temp and in that case, no shutdown occurred. It just plain fried. Buy some Dust Off canned air and spray out the inside real well.
  6. try to fix errors with regtool. I have use this program for a year. It scans and repairs Windows errors for me. http://www.keep-pc-clean.com/
