How does someone break into a bank vault?

I'm not going to try to do so, I just need to know for an instructional piece for school.

1. a lot of heavy equipment. Most bank vaults are at least 4 inch thick tempered steel. Would probably take about an hour just to drill a 1/4 inch hole through it. By that time, you'd have already changed drill bits a few times, and be standing in a puddle of lubricating oil.
