Safe Luxury

can you build a climbing wall on a brick wall?

On the side of my house (outside) we have a very high brick wall which is completely plain (there is nothing on it) . I know climbing walls are not usually brick, but would it be possible and safe to attach holds to the wall?

  1. depends on how brittle the brick is
  2. It can be made safely, but it is going to cause a lot of damage to your brick wall. You would be better off putting a structure in fron to fo the brick wall, rather than attaching the hand and foot holds to the brick.
  3. you could have individual bricks cut out and relaid with them sticking out enough to get a grip on them...
  4. If your able to drill deep enough into the wall to securely sink the foot holds. And if it's not brittle enough. I hope it turns out well.
  5. the red small bricks are for looks only and in most cases are not attached to the building ( there may be a few places where it may be attached to build be flat pieces of metal....be sure u don't pull the wall down by putting weight on it
